Well, I'm home, minus Emmy but it was easier than I thought it would be because Sue and Ken plus their resident Galgo, Pepper, made her very welcome. She was soon running around and making friends. I know she will be very happy living in a really pretty part of the world with many walks on the doorstep. Emmy and Pepper getting aquainted Family approved Choices choices

Some pictures sent today from Sue and Ken. Emmy appears to have settled in extremely well. (Forgetting me in a blink of an eye!) Trip to the pub. Double game of tug!

Isn't that lovely Claire. Now you can sleep. xxx She was an ideal foster really. One of those dogs that adapt and fit in. She was keen to get to Ken when I went up for their homecheck and she followed him immediately, it made it easier for me to leave her... I cried tears of joy and loss when i got these pictures. I will sleep easier tonight.

Hello, Ken and I are Emmy's new adopters and I think she likes it here! Claire has posted some pictures from yesterday and I would have added a couple more but can't quite see how to do that. Anyway, Emmy has settled in really well, is off the lead in secure fields as recall is so good, calm and steady meeting other dogs and friendly to people coming to the house. Basically, everything Claire posted previously about Emmy is absolutely spot on and she is a credit to her fostering skills. However, there is one issue I'd like some advice about: our other dog Pepper (a Dogs Trust galgo) is about the same size as Emmy, just a little longer in the leg (and - ahem - a more streamlined shape). She is by nature a nervous, submissive dog who has had to accept that our older dog, her companion since a puppy, is not coming back although she looked for her for days/weeks after she had an horrific accident and had to be put to sleep. The problem, at the moment, is that Emmy snaps at her and frightens her when there is physical contact e.g. getting in the boot of the car, trying the greet/play with the same person at the same time. We have never had this problem before so all I can think to do is step back a bit and let them sort themselves out (not much doubt about who's going to be top dog) reprimand Emmy verbally when she's too full on and keep putting them in the car so that it's just a routine thing that they do. It's a big estate car, by the way. I'm not expecting them to sit on top of each other. I may be worrying about nothing as it's such early days but does anyone have any advice about what to do - if anything? Many thanks Sue B

Hi and welcome.I am not expert but it is early days and it will take a couple of weeks for the dogs to settle together. Emmy may just be saying back off til we know each other better. They should sort the pecking order out between them. Perhaps try not to put them in the car together for a couple of days or separate them in the car. I am sure someone will come along with some good advice soon.

I did ask on another thread in the chat part of the forum Sue. It's lovely to see you on the forum by the way I think you are right to think that they will sort it out, Emmy showed no aggression here but didn't like it if one of the bigger dogs got too close, it never bothered us because I knew she was just huff-A-puffin. It was usually greeted with a sharp no from me. I don't want your sweet Pepper feeling anxious however so a soft muzzle was suggested on the other thread so you feel more relaxed or let Pepper in the car first so Emmy can fit into Pepper's space not Emmy owning the space. She did bark sometimes when playing. Try to keep calm, Pepper will pick up on it if you are anxious. It will take a couple of weeks for Emmy to settle so don't overly fuss her, she needs to bond with Pepper. I am sure many more will be along to offer advice.
