Yesterday we paid a second visit to a new (to us)open space- Slade Farm in Poole. Large area of grass, woodland, and most useful of all a large enclosed dog play area. On Saturday when we first located it there was a group of regulars in there, and when we let him off, they chased him as he was "not one of us". This didn't worry him as he just skipped out of reach, but then he got over enthusiastic with a little puff ball that squeaked, so we put him back on the lead and walked round the woods. Yesterday the play area was empty so we tried again. Hugo and Lorna were not interested in playing with him, and although he ran after the ball a couple of times, he was more interested in the various dogs that walked past on the other side of the fence, barking at some of them. We discovered that his recall is not much good at the moment: he knows you're calling, but is far more interested in what he's doing! This morning was wet, so we walked up the road to our local bit of woodland. He doesn't mind walking in the rain, but we don't have a coat that will work with a harness, so he got quite wet. His fur all stands up frizzy when he's dried off! Hugo, on the other hand, looks like a drowned rat, even though he was wearing his raincoat! Thank doG for our drying rack!

He now has a snazzy rain coat courtesy of the local doggy charity shop - Waggy Tails, so he's ready for the next rain.
This afternoon we walked him with a Halti instead of the harness, and although he didn't like it much it did have the desired effect: he pulled a lot less, and it may even have modified his barking at other dogs.
Progress!

Sorry Keith I thought you knew about Slade Farm or I would have mentioned it. BTW I hope that trickling water sound in the video is your fountain!? Benjie can have a go at Monty tomorrow! That'll sort him out!!

Hugo is being such a good boy with him. Flo would of gone in rougher and harder to show she is the roughest tumblest!!!. His a lovely boy looks like his coat will be easy to groom compared to the more curly beddie coat!. Flo's coat looks similar she doesn't get knotty X

Very dapper Ghengis. Is he an 'any weather' walker or would he rather stay warm and dry?

Benji is not bothered by the rain, he's always up for an interesting walk, and at the moment everything is interesting!
When we are walking along he will splash through puddles, whereas Hugo and Lorna will mostly walk round.
When we walk down to the edge of the sea, Lorna and Hugo will go in to paddle every time, but Benji holds back!
Looking forward to seeing what he makes of a crowd of Lurchers in the field on Sunday!

Did I miss a name change? Benji sounds less like trouble than Ghengis

His last owners called him Ghengis, but it is SLR tradition that the first Fosterer gets to give the dog a name. So Keith & Mollie chose Benji. He does not look lime a marauding Mongol. Benji is so much better.
