Is there no end to your talents Christine. Wonderful video, brought so many memories back to me of what a fabulous and playful dog he is, and tears to my eyes. Reminded me what a fabulous dog I had to let go. I'm sure they will be queuing up now.

Ollie looking really cute on the sofa last night... he's such a sweet gentle-giant. He now regularly climbs onto the sofa with the other dogs and has become Alice's BFF, but then Alice is every foster dog's best friend!

Makes me smile to hear him described as a "gentle-giant"........he'd be tiny next to Nero.

Ollie continues to do well. He is learning to be more confident about meeting people and is much less reactive to other dogs. I can easily let him interact with other dogs when he is on the lead and it's only the more excitable ones that he reacts to. I let him off the lead at the weekend and he loved being able to stretch his legs with a great run chasing Daisy... and he came back to me OK! He's very affectionate and also loves being with my dogs, especially on "their" sofa with them! Here he is on the walk in the park this morning sitting waiting for a treat! He really does have the most gorgeous eyes.

Hi Christine, am doing some serious catch-up after being offline quite a lot recently due to an unscheduled trip to hospital. Now home and recuperating and catching up on loads of things, currently with my very hairy Alice look-alike by my side. You have done wonders with this boy and your fabulous video creation will have them queuing round the block. You and your pack are so consistent with the fosters, SLR is lucky to have you. Fingers crossed for Ollie, meanwhile hope you all have a lovely Christmas xx

Bit of an emotional day today, which included a card from Ollie saying thank you... brought a lump to my throat. I think Jenny must have helped him write it, so thank you Jenny!

I've been waiting for an opportunity to use the Dog Trouble secure paddock (which I can use for free as I'm on their client books) to let Ollie off the lead and test his recall, but it's some way for me to go and it's been difficult to find a time. So I decided this was the weekend when I would let him off the lead and see if he'll come back. When Ollie was first transferred over to me for fostering he was very hand shy and wouldn't come to me even for a treat, and when I let him off in the baseball courts at Tadley he wouldn't come to any of us and we had to resort to sneaky tactics. I didn't think he had the instinct to run away (unlike Bertie!) but I didn't want to let him off until I was confident he had learned to come to me and not back away - my nightmare experience with Bertie when I let him off the lead for the first time and he ran away has made me rather wary about when I let Ollie off.
I took him out to a local water meadows on his own yesterday and let him off. I walked him on his own so I could see how well he was bonding with me and focusing on what I was doing, and I took a ball as I know he loves chasing after them. He was very good and came back to me when I called. He did keep getting that "faraway" look where he seemed to be deciding whether to run from me or come to me, but he came back and was fine about me touching his collar. I took him out with Daisy this morning to see how he interacted with me when she was a distraction, and also to see how he interacted with her when she was running. He was very good on both counts. It's always a bit of an anxious moment when you first let them off the lead and they start running in the opposite direction, but as you can see, he was very good and came back to me - helped a little by Daisy being very good with recall.
Here's a video from yesterday. I put a bell on his collar and keep the lure lead attached so I could more easily catch him if he did decide to run off. I only use it on these open fields where it can't catch on anything. I'll post one of him running with Daisy separately
