Not even a week??? That's such a disappointment. I'm so sorry for Grace. But thank you Claire for being there for her. I'm actually quite shocked.

I think it's hard for us to understand, but the situation was that Gracie was genuinely terrified of Nick and although she would walk on the lead with him she wasn't comfortable at having him near her. Added to that, they walked where a lot of walkers walked their dogs (something we were not aware of) and she was terrified and defensive of off-lead dogs coming at her. When you are faced with this and you are not experienced with difficult dogs it is daunting. I did say that this was not going to be a quick fix and that it would take a lot of time for Gracie firstly to get comfortable with being somewhere new and then to overcome her fears of a man that has done something to her in the past, a fear that doesn't really leave her, and then accept a male presence in her life.
We have to remember, that when she was with Janine her other half was on nights, so the children were always around for her when Janine was working. And being with Claire, she is only with a female influence and feels comfortable with Claire and with Jasper.
It is all so sad, but it has to be right, both for Grace and for her Adopters. I have altered her website write-up and will ask the Oldies Club to alter theirs. There is the right home out there for Grace. But it has to be isolated and with female influences and I still think another dog around that is laid back to give her confidence. Please don't come down hard on them. We all have our own perception of a difficult dog. What one person can easily handle, another can't even get to grips with. We are so very relieved that Claire is willing to have her back. It's not ideal for Claire as she loves to socialize and walk with friends with their dogs and she has felt isolated having Grace. Please, all share Grace, but make sure you all emphasise the need for isolation, remoteness of home and female only. xxx

That explanation helps Jenny, Γ‘nd so important to get the bigger picture. Hopefully Nick and Jenny will find the right dog for them, and Grace will find the right home for her.

Thanks Jenny that explains it. Some man must have really been cruel to Grace in her earlier life. I remember how terrified she was when Janine first had her.

So sad for Grace, thought all would be OK. Still better to find out now than 3 months down the line. Thanks Claire for stepping up again, at least she'll be somewhere familiar for a while.

That explains it Jenny, and I have sympathy for them and of course, Grace. Poor girl, she obviously had something terrible done to her . They never really forget.

It's not been easy for Claire. She has found Gracie challenging in that she is a one dog one person dog and poor little Jasper has to take a back seat. Claire has found it so much easier for Jasper in the week that she has been away.
Even more important for us to find that forever lady or ladies somewhere, where she can be pampered and settle forever.
Gracie can dominate attention from the person she trusts, and this means constant attention, and following Claire around.
But when she bonds she trusts and loves.
The right home is out there And we are grateful that Nick and his wife Jill gave it a try. xxx

So sad for grace ππ I she has come so far from the dog I collected on the transport run, it took her a long time to trust ian but in the end she loved him as much as me if not more ππ€£but it was in her time xx yet she wouldn't tolerate one of his friends whether he reminders her of someone I don't know she in time accepted treats from malc and len as long as they didn't look at her but she's been deeply traumatised in her past π’π’but she is a lovely gentle girl when she trusts you and gives all her love β€οΈ xx I still feel guilty that my situation changed and had to distrust her life again π’π’

Well, Grace has been back a week but I think she's made herself comfortable... She's been a bit unsettled this week, but that's to be expected. She seems to have treated her time away as a bit of a holiday :-) There are a few things she seems to have 'forgotten' while she's been away, so she's had at least one walk on her own with me each day this week. Hopefully we'll be back to our best before soon :-)

Enjoying the sunshine π She was enjoying a good old roll around on her back, but every time I managed to get the camera out, she stopped. Camera shy!!
