Well, Fred has arrived.
His mum drove him all the way from Hampshire to Essex yesterday & we all spent a bit of time together before she left. And it seems to have worked, cos so far he hasn't shown any anxiety at all.
Fred is a GORGEOUS little man! Little being the operative word, he's tiny! He's a quiet & independent boy, which is a first for me, as most of the dogs I've had through here have been very clingy.
He settled down to sleep without any fuss at all last night & I actually had to wake him this morning!
He does bark furiously when someone comes to the door but, about an hour ago, I discovered that he will stop if you send him to his bed.
His mum also tells me he gets scared if people approach him with their hands in their pockets. Although I haven't see that for myself yet.
So, if you are looking for a 'compact', confident, independent little dog, who has recall (Lurcher-stylee), loves children (preferably of about 5 years or up, unless they are already very dog savvy), is cat-trainable & can be left for 4 hours without worry, then Fred could be the dog for you.
His only downside is that, at the moment, he's rather overweight. But we're working on that already. The food he came with (Wagg) isn't my idea of good nutrition, so I'm in the process of switching him over to Burns (provided by Burns themselves, as they sponsor SLR) & that, coupled with lots of exercise should soon see him dropping those excess pounds.
So please, spread the word about this wonderful little man & let's find him his forever family quick smart.
Settling down for his first night at 'Chez Boo'. Ignoring his breakfast & trying to look cute, in the hope that there might be something more interesting on offer. You can see how dinky he is in this picture. He's barely any bigger than Ruby's raised food bowls! Refusing to pose for the camera. (Note Ruby in the background. She's ignoring his existence at the mo, lol.) "Oh go on then, but I want a biscuit for my trouble."
I'll bring you more as I get to know him.

Well done Becka. Love the pic with his paws crossed! He does that all the time, Heather. He watched an entire episode of Super Vet with his paws crossed last night, lol. I'll try & catch it on camera.
(And PS. Sorry I didn't phone yesterday, his mum didn't get here until about the time I was meant to call you, cos the traffic was bad. Will def. call you later today. x)

It sounds like he's going to have a nice settled time with you and get into trim shape. Let's hope it's not too long before someone comes along to give him a new chance

What a lovely compact little hound. He sounds pretty perfect to me. Nothing wrong with being a good house-dog, specially if he stops barking on command. Strange about the pockets thing - just the opposite to my lot who always assume that hand in pocket means treats. He has such a lovely intelligent face too. Well done Becka for fostering him.
