Little Dottie is getting more and more confident. She's only been here 5 days but each day I see more and more of the happy little girl coming out. She is very affectionate and wags her tail all the time. She's started to play with Alice and Comet and is gradually learning our routines. She's perfectly happy at night and never cries when I shut my bedroom door (I don't let the dogs into my bedroom). She just settles down in one of the beds on the landing or in the study and sleeps right through until I get up in the morning. I've been working on getting her to accept the crate. I don't need to use it at night but I want to get her used to it for when I might need to leave her in the house without one of the other dogs being here. At present I'm taking the dogs out in relays so Dottie is never on her own but I'd like to try her in the crate on her own as I think this would be helpful for whoever adopts her. She's very people-focused and although she's stopped crying when I leave her to take the dogs out, I think she would cry if she was completely on her own so I'm going to gradually wean her off doing that. She loves running round the garden with a ball being chased by Alice and is very playful, but not in an over-the-top way. All in all she's proving to be the little angel and perfect little girl I thought she was when I first brought her home. I've got some video of her with the other dogs ... unfortunately Comet and Alice are showing her how to play "horses" !*$!*!!! ... I'll post an example later but for now here she is in the garden with showing what a happy, waggy-tailed girlie she is.

I've had to use some tactics to get her into the crate but she's now going in there whenever she feels like it. When I used it with Bambi I sometimes found Alice in there with her, but the thought of 2 or 3 at a time sounds so funny.

When Dottie first arrived (was it really only last weekend!) Alice was not sure about her and it took her some time to decide she wanted to play with her. Now they play together really well. There's been some rather unfortunate games being learned from Comet and Alice, more of which to follow... but for now, here's Part I of Dottie playing with Alice, while Comet is just being Comet, i.e. odd!

Will Dottie be joining us all at the Farley Mount Walk next weekend? Dottie still has a couple of weeks to go before she is OK to go out after her vaccines - her second one is on Friday then it's another week before the all clear. She is scheduled for her girly op on Tuesday but I think she's come into season so that will probably have to wait. So maybe next time. I'm betting everyone will fall in love with her.... she is so gentle and so sweet.

Dottie has such a gentle but happy sweet nature that Daisy has already let her lie close to her on the sofa. Normally Daisy takes around 3 weeks to accept a new foster, but she even played with her last night. It's fascinating watching dogs interact and trying work out what is going on between them. I can see with Dottie that she's not at all threatening and the other dogs know she just wants to play. Although she loves being with the other dogs, she's very human-focused and I think she would be OK as an only dog, provided you could spend lots of time hugging her!!! Here she is with Daisy on one of the sofas. As you can see, she's not very tall, just a little bit taller than Daisy.

This is Part II of Alice, Comet and Dottie playing in the garden. Alice and Comet play very boisterously and Alice is very vocal and bouncy. As you can see Dottie is not as pushy as Alice, but despite being biffed around by her, little Dottie is happy to play with them... it would just be nice if they would teach her more appropriate games than playing "trains"!!!

Dottie is in season so can't have her girly op for another 4 months. She's still no trouble and has what the vet described as a very clean season, bless her. I've been trying to think of what some of her bad points are but I can only think of 2: she has a very wet cold nose and she likes to it at me, especially on my legs when I'm wearing shorts, and the other is she's a counter-surfer! OK, I know, I'm scraping the barrel, but it's really the only things she's done that have been anywhere near a negative. She is very food orientated so easy to train but I have to make sure she doesn't bolt her food and get bloat. All in all she's proving to be a very easy little girl to have around. I'll miss her when she goes but I know that she's going to make someone the perfect addition to their home. Let's hope it's soon.
