Albert has landed. Quite, gentle, attentive and well mannered. Enough of me. Albert's also like that. And gracefully long legged. He seemed amazed when Helen went upstairs. Must be levitation,,, he was thinking, I'm sure. Never been in a two storey building, I'm a little more sure. Doesn't play. VERY calm and non-reactive. Good job. I'd forgotten to get a greyhound muzzle and he's way to long nosed for Joey's whippet sized ones. However, no confrontation at all. Sure, he told The Boyz he didn't do playing, in a doggy manner, but no drama. He's now flat out in the dog bed beside me,,,,, until I reached for the camera. Oh, he's untrained and doesn't sit. Nightmare! What shall I do to keep busy?!

Proper camera, without time or thought of composition.

Oh he looks sad. Well done Simon and Helen - I expect he will look a lot happier before long with Ringo and Joey to have fun with.

I have 3 greyhounds and none of them sit! Good luck in getting the bottom on the floor Simon. If Jenny hadn't said that Albert was a lurcher, I would've said he had greyhound characteristicts. Mine play but only when it suits.....so don't over encourage him! .....unless you're not going to hand him over???

He does look very greyhoundy - I assume he is not actually tattooed.....? None of my "smoothies" sit - Nero always does "sphinx" if I tell him to sit. Doesn't bother me - sitting is over-rated - we all get on pretty well without it. And Albert may actually play when he has settled down a bit. I never thought Kodi knew how to play until Hamish came on the scene. Hamish persistently spins in front of Kodi until Kodi lose his cool and gives chase - so funny. Albert looks a tad skinny so he probably doesn't have much energy right now anyway. When he has a bit more muscle on those handsome bones he may feel differently.

I adore the greyhounds as they're so laid back and gentle. As you say, most of them can't physically sit or do stairs but my lot do love soft toys to pounce on, throw around or just use them as a pillow
He looks rather gorgeous.

Hey, that IS his smile! He's like,,,, free-style jaaaazz smilie. He's very happy to be here. BUT keeps moving when I touch the camera, so I don't catch a 'nice' smile! Arrgh!!
Grey's don't sit? Like, Lurchers don't do gundog work? Janette -> Comet . Jim Greenwood -> some lurcher or two. Though they have so, so much more experience than me. Aim high,,,, sit low. Unless I run out of time,,, Hehe...

Well done for getting him out, he looks lovely. Sorry I missed this thread being in Pompey we could have got him out. Our greys never sit, I think I have one photo of Whizzy sitting just to prove that they can - but they prefer not to.

It's not so much a "Don't want to sit" thing as a physically uncomfortable because of their shape thing Simon. I wouldn't be inclined to insist he sits as it may hurt him and then he'll develop "issues" about it.

Well done Helen and Simon. Albert is a lovely looooong dog! If anybody can get him to play, it is probably Joey. I have found it is easier to start with lying down than with sitting in the training scales with greyhound types, but it is best to wait until they come out of their shell first. Greys can be deceptive, looking relaxed when they are in fact withdrawn. As to stairs my ex-racer suddenly shot up the stairs after our cat one day and found out she could do them after all! NOT a recommended method. They ended up best of friends by the way.

He is scrummy, but he looks lost Can't wait to see this one come out of his shell hes going to be a stunner Zac is saluki x grey, mostly grey I think and he doesn't like to sit. He will, but gets up on the first opportunity. I got more reward out of teaching him stand stay/wait.

Quite a good first night. One waste-of-time trip to the garden. He settled fairly quickly and didn't pace around much. Better when I moved the dog bed next to my side of the bed. Early hours were fine and got some sleep. Alllmost house trained, but I'm unsure enough that I'm working from home. Main 'trap' for him is our former downstairs bathroom, which awaits building work. It has a concrete floor and new intakes always think it's 'the yard' and pee/poo on it. I forgot... For a completely untrained dog, whodoesn't know his name, he's a breeze! So calm and shadows me. Clearly adopted me. Gave me ample confidence for an off lead walk this morning. Even played hide 'n' seek,,,, though Ringo won that. His normal place is at left heel and comes when called. Tone of voice works. Name doesn't! Yet... Albert play-bowed Joey before the walk and tentative play, for very short bursts, was initiated. Some 3-dog zoomies on the walk. I'm very pleased. No aggression. He tells The Boyz off when they 'play' in an unacceptable way. I suspect his balls pack a certain gravitas and not feeling threatened, is cool with the interaction. Mind you, like most in SLR, I'm used to teeth/growl/lunge language and can tell it's simply communication going no where nasty. I'll not make any issue of not sitting. Many other exceptions to the many routines and rules, while he settles. The steady stream of challenges has already started flowing his way. He has no idea what's coming!
