That is a picture for the caption comp. I'm glad they get on so well It must have been a bit of a shock for socks, nice afternoon with Paddy and Dad picks him up to take him home but when he gets home there is a strange girl waiting for him. (Oh no she wants to be friends, what do I do) Such is the life of a lurcher in the SLR.

Maisie slept through until I woke her just before 6am for her breakfast. Afterwards she went outside and had a poo...yippeee! No sign of another wee yet but we go outside every time she wakes/eats and I'm hoping she"ll get the message although she won"t have any house training skills yet given where she has come from. She is very cute, knows her own mind and has already realised we have bunnies VERY nearby. She loves the garden and even tries to trot a little, which is a struggle given her poor feet (which have been helped by Kara giving her a manicure, thanks Kara). She is however just skin and bone and she will be fed 5/6 times a day until she starts to put on weight. I've Advocated her and bathed her sore eyes this morning and she is now sleeping off her second meal of the day.She sees the vet in the morning and will see what she weighs. I took a quick shot of her this morning when I was changing her pyjamas, it doesn't really show just how thin she is but gives an idea. Spot the hacked off ear and tail feathering.

It sounds like she's settling in really well and must be starting to relax and feel her confidence growing. That coat will soon be looking shiny as you get her back to her proper weight with some good food. I hope it won't be long before he feet start improving too. Let us know what the vet says tomorrow

Love the armchair photo - poor Socks! So glad to hear that you all had a settled night and that Maisie has had her first poo! She struck me as a very 'knowing' girl and hopefully it won't take her long to get the hang of where to toilet. Thank you again Brenda and Steve Am looking forward to following Maisie's progress

Not a happy beginning, but no doubt a very happy ending to come after a fabulously happy middle bit of the story! Well done everyone, but especially Maisie and (shocked) Socks! x

Hi everyone, sorry about the late posting it's been a bit of a full-on day. I took Maisie to our lovely vet Walter this morning. She weighs just 14.2 k, has conjunctivitis and her ears are a mess. Heart and temperature ok. He took a swab from her ears and tested it this afternoon and rang me a couple of hours ago with the results. She has a nasty dollop of Pseudomonas; it's like a superbug, notoriously difficult to treat and eliminate. I've just got in from picking up an antibiotic ear treatment he made up for her which I will use for the next two weeks when he will see her again to discuss what next. She's got eye ointment as well and has been an absolute star at letting me treat her, making no fuss or pulling away or anything. She had the squits last night so I've had her on chicken and rice and she"s got a couple of sachets of electrolytes to keep her glucose etc up until she's back on something more substantial. Apart from all the above, she is such a loving, happy little soul. She has even had a couple of little gallops round the garden and has got the hang of going outside for toileting. Most people know that Socks does not really "do" play but he lets her bounce round him and if she coughs, sneezes, stumbles or in any way looks like she might need help, he"s there checking that she's ok...he"s like a mother hen. I took a photo of her poor tail, its such a sad sight it breaks your heart
