You're really turning this little girl around. All the walking, especially on hard ground, will help get her feet strengthened before too long. She really is a very pretty little girl

Would it be rude to say what a lovely pair you have there Brenda? Socks and Maisie together must draw lots of attention.

Thanks Hun. She's coming on. She gets taken on regular trips into Southwold so that she can get used to seeing other dogs and is getting less bothered than she was at first, it's usually if they stop that she woofs, otherwise she walks past politely. She had her first off-lead a couple of days ago in woods with lovely wide pathways. She was very good and although a bit barky when she first encountered a couple of other dogs she quietened down when reassured. She was wearing her muzzle so all ok and the dogs' owner was very sensible and stood and chatted for a while and gave her some fuss which she adores.

Maisie continues to grow, in both girth and confidence. Exposing her to lots of new places and experiences is giving her a new confident self and she is loving the freedom of the off-lead walks which she gets two or three times a week now. We have left her for about an hour or so at home with Socks while we pop into our weekly village coffee morning, so far with no problems. Still a bit wobbly on her front foot but it is getting stronger and doesn't give her any problem when she runs. She adores the garden and proudly presented me with a baby rabbit the other day...oops, I'm afraid it's a bit like Watership Down around here and she is VERY quick! We went over to Dunwich Woods this morning and then into the village for a pint. There were a family with three whippets there and after she had watched Socks go over for a friendly chat she let me lead her over and stood quietly while they checked her out, albeit at a safe distance, tucked in close to me. This is the best meeting she's had since she arrived and a credit to her new-found confidence. She's back at the vet for her second vaccination on Thursday and hopefully we're away over the Bank Holiday weekend so she'll have more to see and do.

On such a wet a miserable monday morning your update was heart warming to say the least It's wonderful how one dog pays back by helping another dog to find their feet or should i say paws. Maisie is looking great but it's the scars that we can't see from a picture that are healing beautifully too.

She looks so much better than when she first came to you... the transformation is amazing. It's so good to read your update and hear how well she is doing. I'm sure there will be lots of people out there who see how pretty she is and will fall in love with her

Well, what a week Maisie has had! It started last Thursday with a trip to the vet to complete her course of vaccinations. Her eye is still being treated; her left nostril is still not draining properly and he thinks there is a bit of inflammation there, so on with the drops twice a day. Everything else is just fine, her weight is now 17.5 kilo and she is booked in for her girly op a week after the Fun Day weekend. They will also xray her 'wonky' foot then too. We called in on Paddy, Rona and Rod after the vet and she had a lovely time with Paddy in his sunny garden. On Friday, we took the caravan across country to Oxfordshire, stopping en route for an overnight stop at a caravan site in Hertfordshire before going on to the Caravan Club annual National Rally. This was held in the parkland of a large country estate. There were over 1400 vans and lots of trade stands and activity arenas, many people, and dogs of every size and breed AND more than 800 deer in the park! Maisie took it all in her stride and luckily there were lovely wooded walks surrounding the estate which kept us at away from the deer...just as well as she spotted them the minute we arrived! She enjoyed sleeping in the van, particularly when our granddaughter Niamh slept over for a couple of nights. Niamh had come to the rally in her mummy and daddy's VW camper but was much more interested in sleeping cuddled up with the dogs. It was such a good chance to expose Maisie to lots of different things and she coped very well. She is still inclined to woof at other dogs around 'her' patch but she soon learnt to walk around the event taking little or no notice of passing dogs. There was a fun dog show on Monday. Maisie had never seen so many dogs in one place and spent the first half hour snuggled up on Steve's lap. I entered Socks in the Best Rescue Dog class and out of more than 40 dogs, he came 3rd! I thought I'd put him and Maisie in to the Best Brace or Family Group class to give her a bit of experience. Niamh led Maisie in and she walked very nicely with Socks alongside about 25 pairs/groups. Well guess what, we were 5th and we were all so proud of her. We left Oxford yesterday morning and stopped off again overnight to do the last leg today. Unfortunately, while running through the woods chasing birds first thing this morning Maisie ripped her dew claw so we had to call in at our vet when we got back home to have it treated....he clipped it right back (and yes, she yelped) and gave me gel to put on for a week to prevent any infection so hopefully not too bad. She's sporting a rather fetching sock at the moment to stop her licking it. I had a lot of this with Socks in his first few years with us until the vet eventually whipped them off to stop it keep happening. I think I'll dig out the leg protectors I used with him as now that she's allowed offlead, she does love to shoot off after anything that moves. So a full-on week. She is doing so well and is a joy to have around and we are planning a few quiet days, lounging around the garden (them) and mowing, weeding, watering, the garden (us).

Every time I read your updates on Maisie I get a lovely warm glow and a huge goofy grin. It's amazing what you've done for this girl. Her life has been transformed thanks to you guys, and Socks, taking her into your hearts. She must be so happy. Thank you once more for what you are doing for her... My only complaint is that you came so near to me without letting me know so I could arrange to meet up with you!!!!

I don't know who looks happiest, Niamh or Maisie. Curling up under the covers with a silky Flookie has to be one of the greatest pleasures in life. (I don't get out much!!!!!!!)

Sorry Christine, see you at the Fun Day? And we'll have a really good catchup. Ps isn't she like Alice? I can't make it to the Fun Day this year as I am away for work. But I'm hoping to get to Walberswick in August and/or September so maybe we can catch up then. She does look so like Alice. It would be great to see them together ... if she is still with you!

PS How proud does Socks look with that rosette Lisa x That goes for me too as I recall the skinny little bag of bones we collected in Surrey on the transport run but she stole our hearts even then.
