It's been interesting seeing how Lenny copes with just 3 legs, and for anyone who might be unsure about adopting a tripod dog I can assure you that they are just as playful, energetic, agile, fast, and happy as dogs with four legs. I've been amazed at how quickly I've stopped thinking of him as a tripawd. OK, he has a very bouncy walk, but it's very cute, and his back legs are very strong now and getting stronger, as is his front leg. He can easily run up the stairs and always overtakes me now. He runs round the garden with the other dogs and leaps over pots, shrubs... dogs! with no problem. I did a lot of reading-up about tripod dogs before I fostered Lenny and took note of the advice about un-carpeted floors being a problem, and I put down lots of rubber-backed mats. But I needn't have worried as Lenny has no problem at all running over my laminated floors and never seems to slip. He sometimes gets bowled over when he's outside playing with Alice but no more than any other young dog I've had and he just jumps up and keeps going. So my message to anyone looking at Lenny and wondering about coping with a tripod dog, I'd say there's nothing to cope with. He's just like any other dog... he's a cheeky, happy, loving adorable little pup who (like Floppy before him) sometimes falls asleep in the most ridiculous positions!!!

He really is the most adorable little pup. We fostered Tigger and he proved that 3 legs are just good as 4. He flew around the park.

Absolutely agree. Molly our tripawed foster dog managed brilliantly. She could do everything a four legger could do. Hers was a front leg. The younger they lose it the easier it is to adapt i expect.

This used to be a flower border! Alice is the culprit... she loves to tease Lenny and he loves to respond. She thinks it's fun to tip out all the compost from pots, distribute it around the garden and then break the pot into pieces, preferably in a tug-of-war with Lenny... who is always happy to oblige. As you can see Lenny has no problem running fast and jumping high!!!

You'd have to look very closely to spot Lenny only has 3 legs! Like a little springbok

Many thanks to Heather and to Claire for getting the lovely "I need a home" vest over to me for Lenny. He looks really cute in it, as you can see!
