Poor little one - welcome to SLR, you will get the care you need now - and I suspect as soon as you are well enough there will be a queue round the block to offer you a loving home.

Little Annie's x-rays showed a bad break almost on the edge of the femur, and to be able to put a pin across whilst she is still growing is not guaranteed succesful as it would almost certainly have be removed as she grows, and it is not in a place that could be guaranteed to succeed. This is a painful process and both Anil and I have had to come to the decision that it is kinder and she will be painfree in a lot less time with amputation. If the break had been just a little bit further up and not on the end of the femur it would have been easier, but a plate would still probably have had to be removed in a few weeks. I'm sorry folks, but Anil is amputating this afternoon. As this is a back leg she should be a pocket rocket in no time. xxx

Tough call, but she's in a good place for it to be made.
Compare and contrast with this mutilation and even this dog bounces back when given the right care. Amazing animals these dogs. Some amazing people too, on both ends of the good -- evil spectrum. .

How sad but a pain free tripaw is better than three and a dodgy one. Just look how Molly was and that was a front leg. Loads of safe GA and heal quickly vibes. Xx

that is really sad news and a really hard decision for you to make, Jenny, especially for a little pup whose life has only just begun. She didn't deserve to find herself in this state at such a young age, poor thing. I wouldn't want this for any dog, but they adapt remarkably well, and they don't see it as the loss of a leg. We just have to get our heads round it and make sure every aspect of their life is happy, fun and secure. Good luck little Annie... we're all sending you positive mend soon vibes, little one

Just watched the video Simon. What I would like to to to the b*$****$ that did that. It just shows how resilient dogs are and with love and care they really bounce back. What a super little pup.

Thank goodness she is in good hands now. Well done all concerned. I always remember Ruby over Pishiobury, Jenny. She was amazing and if I'm right, that was a front leg I believe.
