What an absolute little poppet this little chap is. Travelled well, if a little active. Not much in the way of basics but knows all about how to integrate with 2 complete strangers and their hoomans. Charley woofed at him and he shot a mile backwards in terror. This was new for Charley so, confused, she stopped woofing and went to have a closer look. Then she jumped up and put her paws around his shoulders (it took almost a year for her to do this with Dexter) and then it was play bows all over so, as we know Charley will come to call straight away if needed, and with a small gulp, we let Toby off in the garden. Big scampering about, lots of turns and naughty ears, more woofing from Charley and then a calm down before introductions to Dexter. Dexter was polite and was trying to incite play in a rather boisterous lurchery way which wee Toby thought he was a bit much and so hid behind Andy until it was safe to come out in between tearing about. So, brief summary on first impressions: Travels well - no accidents (but quite active - he was very insecure poor wee thing - just taken from his regular world and placed in our, rather odd, one) Appears to be housetrained Yippeeeeeee, but I hope I'm not celebrating too soon! Runs to the hoomans when under threat from exuberant advances from lookey-likey bigger lurchers. Is so polite and has slotted in at the bottom of whatever their order here is without anyone having to point out his place - he is clever. No sign yet of the manic behaviour, but he has just spent an hour with Dexter and Charley and is completely pooped at the mo. No surprise, but he is an adept and quite experienced counter-surfer. Charley has a new project. Charley, the mardy, bad-tempered terrier, is in love and seems to have put herself in charge of operation new boy. Photos to follow when I have done the how to post photo refresher course ... P.S. We are also in love. He is adorable. He is also a bit of a clutz! Feet seem too big to manage and you can hear him coming from miles away.

How many hours in Christine's days?! Very well done.
When he gets rid of some energy, he's gonna be more gorgeouser.
Would that be SLR Dexter who's being referred to?

your post brought a lump to my throat Maxine.... it's wonderful to hear how good he is being about slotting in and what a poppet Charley is. It's a reminder of how dogs react differently to different dogs... there's something about Toby that works for her. I was really concerned when I first met him that nobody would want to take on such a hyper-active young dog, and I can't thank you enough for stepping up. He's been playing on my mind ever since I met him, causing me anxious sleepless nights, poor little man. But now it's all looking up for him. The photo of him with Andy is so adorable. I'm betting that in a few weeks he'll be a different dog altogether from the one I met a week ago, thanks to both of you and your pack. Really looking forward to hearing how the relationship with Dexter develops... more news soon pleeeeeease!!!
... and yes Simon, it's SLR Dexter. You wouldn't recognise him as the same dog that we saw on the forum. He's so handsome and happy. Maxine and Andy, especially, have done wonders turning him around and I've no doubt they'll do the same for little Toby

Wonderful news. Well done Maxine and Andy, not forgetting Charley and Dexter, for taking Toby in to your hearts and home. He looks and sounds such a lovely boy......I don't think he'll be short of applications.

Blimey, we are all blushing here and just a little bit proud of our SLR Dexter. Toby is very similar in looks but at the opposite end of everything in behaviour. Looking forward to this new challenge. We have given Toby Dexter's old collar (his own was quite narrow and he does pull a tad on lead). Not sure he is wearing it with pride yet but he too will grow to love faux leopardskin ...

There was supposed to be a mini-vid in the post above. Obviously need to have a refresher course on all things digital.

I'm going to be glued to Toby's thread for updates, especially how the relationship between him and Dexter develops. It's early days yet but I think Dexter is could be a great help in calming Toby's over-exuberant puppy behaviour.

Walk this morning was probably an eye-opener for young Toby but he handled the new sights and sounds very well. Met dogs and people and was perfectly fine, all three dogs completely ignored (didn't see until it was too late) 2 deer shooting right past their noses - within two metres close - phew, luckily had all 3 on lead at the time. Horses went by and Toby was interested but not particularly excited or worried. He did get over-excited when our two went on their usual scamper about in the bracken but it seemed to be more because he wanted to join in than nervous worry. It has been fascinating to see how the three dogs are behaving towards each other: Charley has a new playmate and has taken responsibility for counter-surf policing or any sort of jumping up policing - great, means we don't need to say a thing! Dexter has suddenly become Charley's protector and moves in if the new lad is getting a bit too enthusiastic by placing himself between Toby and Charley, but without barking or fussing - he just looks and that seems to be enough. Toby has been no bother at all today (so far!) - we have been so lucky with the weather so he has spent much of the day between the garden and his bed and playing with Charley and Dexter. We are pretty much ignoring him as much as possible (advice from on high ) and letting the dogs do the work. Dexter has toned down his play and Toby has got a bit braver, so they have had lovely races around the garden. Toby has decided either Charley or Dexter are good to cling to and now if we call one in from the garden we get all three. They are now all conked out and snoring. Be so interesting to see how they get on over the next couple of weeks. I was too early with my enthusiasm for the house training ... we are on hourly patrol duty until further notice (actually he woofed to be let out in the night and performed one of everything so that was brilliantyahoo_zps5ec37ca5 - though it was 1.30am, so less brilliant ). There have been a couple of incidents - luckily I was able to whizz him straight out into the garden and hopefully he will make the connection soon. Only day one so early days ... but it feels so good to have done our little bit to help this cute wee bundle along.

They are so alike - thank goodness Toby is (for the moment) smaller otherwise it would be tricky at first glance to decide who had done what . Toby's feet are much bigger than Dexter's so not sure if this means he might be bigger overall or if he just has enormous feet for his little scamp of a body!

Lovely updates... he sounds a little character, and having two buddies to muck along with will help him expel some of that poopie energy.

What a great thread. You're (all) doing such a great job with this little lad and am sure as the days go by, you'll have so much more to tell us. He's a handsome chap. Good luck with the house training xx

Great updates. And what an amazing tail, it nearly seems to have a life of its own! You are all doing a marvellous job with him by the sound of it. What a lucky pup, he has certainly landed on his feet with you and your hounds to look after him.

Well done for helping this handsome lad. It looks like he has gone to the perfect place to use up that excess poopie energy, two willing playmates and a huge garden, one lucky pup
