Update on the lad:
'Twas a quiet night with no problems except that there was one 'accident,' which surprised me because he'd already performed a couple of times during the day, & again on our late walk.
Sid started out on my bed, moved to the dog bed in the bay window, & finally chose to sleep in the recliner armchair. He was not at all fazed by our 5.30 a.m. kickoff, & we had a good hour's walk during which he began to learn that (a) we go where I say, which is not necessarily where he wants to go, & (b) if he pulls on the lead he gets nowhere fast, as we stop & only move on again when I say so. It may take a while for him to get the message, but he's an intelligent little lad, just a tad wilful & still puppyish.
When I went to the bathroom this morning I found the towel on the floor again, & a myriad pawprints in the shower cubicle.
When approached, Sid has his own version of a rather submissive play bow. He also has some sort of inbuilt belief that the tops of chests of drawers & worksurfaces are not meant to have anything on them - what's there belongs on the floor!
Photos of the dear little chap to follow later in the day.

Great update, Barney. If Sid is inclined to move all loose removeable items from your chest of draws, I would think he has already taken a strong shine to you, Barney, as it does give somehow an indication that he is trying to be helpful...... you should leave the duster out for him! Wet paw prints in the shower cubicle could indicate that he left the shower in frustration when he could not find the shower gel. You are doing a great job with him and look forward to your pictures later on.

I'll probably get him to do the hoovering after our next walk!

Lovely piccies of Sid who seems to have settled in very well. He is looking quite relaxed and has obviously found the most comfortable places in your home straight away, Barney!

Sid was marginally better on lead during our 5.30 a.m. perambulation, which is just as well, since the footpaths & cycle track were icy, so we stuck mainly to grass in the park. He also looked to me for praise when he obeyed commands this morning, which I have to say was quite frequently.
Sid really enjoyed his breakfast, which was supplemented by the cooked chicken & ham regularly donated by some elderly neighbours. There has been absolutely no food aggression from any of the hounds during Sid's stay, & I have to praise Winnie & Annie for, (as usual), being very accommodating to a canine stranger in their home-kennel. Sid remains a little timid & handshy, but once this is overcome the lad will make someone a very loving, faithful, & good-looking companion.

Lovely updates Barney. Sorry about your finger, hope it's not too painful.
I bet Sid thinks he has landed in heaven, he looks so cosy on the chair. Thank you so much for taking him in.

Exactly! (lol)..... and one of the many reasons why the foster dogs love you so much, Barney. Lovely Sid seems to respond very well to your (gentle) commands as he knows now that he will hear a praise from you for his obedience. I'm sure he does appreciate your gentle (but firm) approach and in return is trying hard to please you... bless him. You have cracked the best way to deal with sensitive salukis, Barney, and I hope he will manage to overcome his timidness in the short time he will be with you - especially when Sid's efforts are rewarded with one (or two!) pieces of cooked chicken or ham donated from your friendly neighbours! Sid is a very lovely hound who is lucky to have you, Winnie and Annie for his early confidence building and I reckon he will, indeed, make someone a very loving and faithful hound (although it takes a little bit of understanding salukis as they are usually not too overly demonstrative with their emotions, due to their sensitive nature). Great job, Barney!

Sid enjoying his breakfast. He's actually eating Annie's, who's eating Winnie's, who's eating Sids. (The hounds always play musical chairs with with their meals in our home-kennel. ).
There was again some improvement on-lead during our last walk a couple of hours ago - this lad is deffo not slow on the uptake.

Super Sid is off to Cornwall today to continue his fostering experience with Caroline & her crew - lucky lad! Julie is meeting us in Harlow this morning to transport him down to Donna at Guildford, for onward transmission to the West Country. Unfortunately, I guess that Sid's favourite item of furniture might be a tad too big for Julie's car! Master of all he surveys: Have a happy, healthy future Sid - it's been a pleasure & a privilege to have your company for a few days.
