Well Pearl has retreated to my bedroom for most of the evening, mostly on her own through her choice but she has started running up and down the stairs when she thinks I am not looking and in the last hour I went up stairs and Pearl let me fondle her ears while she was lieing on the bed. It will take a little time to get some trust but a good start. I spotted Sadie's nose poking out from underneath the curtain. I think she was having a quiet five minutes.

Just a quick up date on the lovely Pearl. A day of small progress, Pearl has had a lovely "lurchernap" with Sadie and I , and is currently running up and down the stairs none stop. I put 2 mug fulls of food in a shared bowl for them at lunch time and Pearl ate the lot with Sadie looking on, so Sadie got a 3rd mug full. Just about to eat again. Managed to briefly visit the garden thanks to Keith lending me a harness. I'm not brave enough to try in the dark so newspaper by the back door. She has obviously been house trained in the past as wants to go by the door bless her. I would say she is less glued to sadie this evening so let's s ee what tonight brings

Well Pearl is a gentle sole just like Sadie but still very timid. She will relax and let me stroke her on the bed but if I move towards her in the house, she is still backing away. I took her to see Graham yesterday and he said she is looking very well considering what she has been through and generally in good condition. I had an amusing moment yesterday , Pearl had been on Sadie's favourite spot on the bed the first night so yesterday Sadie decided to stake her claim and was standing on her spot contemplating lieing down as she does when Pearl dived right underneath her and lay down! Just as well Sadie is adaptable.

Oh bless her. That sort of thing happens here too if one of them takes too long to sit down. Early days still....I'm sure she'll relax more as time goes on.

Good to read that she is beginning to trust you.
I'm sure that every day she will unfurl a little more, you're obviously doing everything right.

So glad that Pearl is beginning to settle with you Carol and that Sadie is showing such patience with her Yours seems the ideal home to help Pearl begin to unwind and begin to learn that her life can really be good

Sadie's taking her role as 'big sis' very seriously, what a lovely pair of girls they are. Greta often beats Alfie coz he dithers...getting the best kitchen bed and the best bedroom bed. When it comes to the lounge though, Alfie is the King of the Sofa (but only because Greta doesn't even try.... ). Well done Carol and Sadie for helping the Pearly Princess feel at home.

Just another quick update on the lovely Pearl. Pearl ventured out first through the door before Sadie which is a first today. Pearl seems more at ease walking round our back garden and we ventured out ever so briefly to the park yesterday. I took them somewhere quiet but Sadie still spotted a small dog in the distance and gave the biggest woof Sadie can manage so Pearl jumped out of her skin and we headed back to the car. We ventured back today and the car park was very busy as it's half term so we had a little walk in the middle of the car park ( a separate grassy area) with people wandering by at some distance and one or two children. Pearl seemed to enjoy it but got back in the car quite happily after Sadie. I took them for a bit of a drive and Pearl sat quietly in the back looking out of the window sometimes. I think she will enjoy her walks more as each day goes by. Pearl enjoys her sleeps with Sadie and only has a few mad runs in a day in the house so she could be a bit older than 2?

Sadie and I took Pearl to meet a friend today for a walk with a very gentle Spaniel and Pearl coped well with the Spaniel although she was very aware of other dogs in the car park near by. We saw some very slow moving cars in a car park, which she was wary of and a steam train which didn't worry her. We've had a few fireworks near home yesterday and that didn't seem to disturb her. It is still people that seem to be her biggest fear. She feels safest lieing down in my bedroom and rests her chin on my leg.

Glad to read that Pearl is seeing you as a 'safe' human to rest her head on.
I'm sure she'll gradually add more to her list.
