Such a shame....I bet their dog really misses having Charlie to play with now. Hope Charlie's perfect home comes along soon.

We took Charlie to the GIN walk at Upton House today.
He wore his vest again, but no-one came forward this time...
As usual, he greeted all the dogs with interest and a waggy tail, and walked quietly on the lead.

Charlie is a lovely boy. I really don't know why he hasn't found his forever sofa.

Charlie is a lovely boy. I really don't know why he hasn't found his forever sofa. Such a lovely character who has always been beautifully behaved every time we have met him. and quite a looker too!

He will get the most perfect home but it seems to be taking a little time to find.

Such a shame it didn't work out for Charlie. It can be a shock to the system have two dogs, especially if they like to play bitey bitey! A forever sofa will appear soon I am sure x

Charlie was a wonderful dog and we miss him terribly. We could not keep Charlie because after more than a week there was no sign that the two dogs would settle down... but we kept our hopes up.
In most respects he is a better "pet" than our Peggy. People on the GIN walk will have seen that Peggy is extremely excitable... she jumps up at most dogs. Coupled with this she is extremely nervous. She constantly started bitey face chases with Charlie and then Charlie dominated. It is all Peggy’s fault that we had to hand back Charlie. Charlie is a wonderful dog and behaved very well when on his own. His only fault was that he waded into our smelly pond... and chasing with Peggy only made it worse. There was a risk that the two dogs running at very very high speeds round the garden (and house) would result in injury. Peggy does have some new marks on her head showing through her thin white fur.
As for finding a new home for Charlie… On the GIN walk Charlie does not show up for the best when wearing that coat. Having Charlie in the home is Charlie at his best. He is lovable, staring at you with his large (sometimes glowing red) eyes, he craves and gives affection.
Since Charley has left us, Peggy sleeps most of the time (apart from walks). When Charlie was here it was a constant rough and tumble around the house.. until the lights went out at night. In the morning neither dog wanted to wake up… so exhausted.
We miss Charlie very much.

I guess I should have mentioned that the chases round the garden involved bitey face at top speed. The playful growling continued until it developed into more aggressive snarling. It was difficult to call off the high speed bitey face. However eventually Peggy would call a truce by making a yelping sound signalling that she was hurt. Charlie would immediately break off the chase... until Peggy started the chase all over again. Peggy loves to meet other dogs.. but it would seem she can't be "paired up" with another chaser. Peggy Sue may never get married.

Thank you for the lovely endorsement, Roy. You certainly had a good influence on the boy in the short time he was your guest. He is easier to control and understands what we mean when telling him to "calm down".......he just doesn't always do it straight away!
We too will miss him when the right home comes along, he is such a fun character, but his space will soon be filled with another dog that needs a new start I expect.

Casparsdad says that we influenced Charley’s behaviour. Well ! for 10 days, all day long we had to interact with Charley just to stop the rough and tumble. Charley stopped obediently… only to be set off again by Peggy. I emphasize that it was nearly always Peggy that started things off. Therefore for days we had to intervene and therefore Charley received hours and hours of attention from us… and he loved it… but it wore us out… and it was all Peggy’s fault. Charley may have changed, but Peggy is the same, but perhaps still a little tired.

Talking of Lurcher play being different from other dogs...... It always amuses me when walking with Keith and his gang or with Ann's Esther & Monty , how many people give us funny looks (usually non dog walkers). They obviously think the dogs are having a serious 'go' at one another. I have often had to explain "Just playing". Esther has this rather annoying habit of flying up to other dogs in a very menacing fashion and then skids to a halt and just says 'hello!' Of course because SHE does it M also has to join in. Again we have to explain that is simply 'normal' Lurcher greeting. Very embarrassing when the recipient panics and runs. 'cos of course they then get chased!

This also happens when my girls encounter the larger hounds in the Symmons pack - folks think WWIII has broken out, & frantic Mums in panic mode scoop their toddlers, (&/or small furries), into their arms to protect them.

Ella has the same greeting method as Esther ;D ;D , the exception times have been when a dog just stands stock still and I am sure she wasn't sure what to make of him and another time when a collie used her arrival method on her Sent from my Nexus 7 using proboards

We were walking the girls the other day ( hatts and indie ) and this guy came running over shouting I saw that dog , it went for your dog ( meaning hatty ) I'll help !! We looked confused and then realised he thought Hatty was attacking Indie !! We had to thank him but reassure him both dogs were in fact ours ! And this was sister love of sorts ! And yes Hatts does hang off indie back legs !!!

I think perhaps that Jethro believes he is a lurcher. I have to tell people that this is how greys play...he runs over like a bullet out of a gun, then flies around them 'grinning' a play bow may feature if their dog is still on the ground and not scooped up into arms. He prefers to play with smaller dogs which terrifies most owners ;-)
