Thanks everyone. As you say, it's early days but I do have a few questions to ask all you expert dog owners. This is my first time introducing another dog into the home and I really don't want to upset Molly who is finding it all a bit puzzling and disquieting. I think we've cracked the feeding arrangements, one in the kitchen and one in the conservatory as Molly gets very spooked if there's any commotion while she's eating. I'm not sure about sharing out the toys and chews though as the toys are all Molly's and she doesn't seem to want to share and she also seems to think that any chew is hers by right so there's been a bit of growling. Should I just keep all toys and chews out of the equation until she's more accepting of Stan's presence? It is only 48hours after all and the fact that they sleep all night in the same room is quite an achievement on her part. Anyway, any advice would be gratefully appreciated. Off to the vet this afternoon for a jab and a checkup. Watch this space

I would keep toys and chews out of the equation for now so there are no spats, after all Molly has had sole ownership til now. Then maybe get them a new toy each but they will still want the same one! There are many more wiser than me to give advice but we previously had two dogs. I could never give rawhide unless separating them as one went very guardy with it. The first two weeks will be the most difficult as they establish themselves in the new pack. We had world war three introducing dog no two but they became the best of friends and lived happily together for the rest of their lives. Good luck.

Thanks Heather. He's a lovely boy but he's a bit like an unruly teenager who needs to learn a few manners. Molly's a quiet young lady and Stan's like a young Jack the Lad full of energy but nervous in certain situations so he makes a lot of noise to cover it up. He's quite a character, but when he puts up his paw for food or climbs up onto the sofa to give me a sloppy , he's also very disarming

We couldn't resist him and have signed the adoption papers. doggyhug3_zps55c50d31It's been just a week and he's calmed down a lot and tries hard to fit in with us. Molly bullies him while they're off lead in true greyhound style and I'm hoping he'll learn to stand up to her. She's not aggressive but likes to nip to encourage him to play. He's totally clean in the house but he has yet to realise that he's meant to poop and pee while on the lead as well as off! We can go out for a lovely walk but unless we let him off, he holds on until he gets back home and then goes in the garden! Not sure how to deal with that one. Any ideas? Anyway, he's ours for better or worse so I'd better finish up so Jenny can file this under 'Adopted'. Thanks Jenny

So pleased you have adopted Stan. Everything will all, slot into place eventually. Not sure how to teach him to 'go' while on lead. Hopefully he will copy Molly.

Wonderful news. Hope everything goes well and that Stan learns to stand up to Molly a bit more as time goes on.

My Saluki boy Alfie, would never go to the toilet out on a walk unless he was absolutely desperate, always preferring to do it in the garden, he like privacy. Well done for taking him in and the pack dynamics will sort themselves out with time

Thank you all for your kind words and in just over a week, Stan's sweet character is starting to emerge. We get lots of kisses and he loves to sit by the lounge window and bark at passers by, the postman and practically everything else that moves. Here he is in his (my) favourite chair
