Best of luck today for the lovely Daisy, still can't understand why it has taken so long!! The trouble is that people see a gorgeous looking fluffy girlie and that's all they see and despite us saying that she is a work in progress, does need ongoing training, does need to have a lot more socializiation and off lead training, they STILL ONLY SEE THE GOREGOUS DOG in the photo. I have turned down 12 applications for Daisy, and one who was persistent finally realised that she would be too much work for them and could not be happy as an only dog... BELIEVE ME... one applicant almost accused me of not wanting to rehome her and that that was the reason we have so many dogs for so long. DO OTHER RESCUES REALLY PUT THE RETURN FIGURES.... WE DO..... We have had 26 returns in 7 years and at least 8 of them were no fault of their own, either partner splits, allergies etc.. Not because we got it wrong. Dogs linger in kennels in kennel rescues for up to 2 years. The dogs with us are happy, healthy, warm and loved, just residing until the right time.. And if like Scooby it takes nearly 18 months, the Fosters know it is because it's not right, but right is the only good reason to rehome. xx Oops, sorry, it wasn't meant as a critisism, I will get back in my box

It isn't for want of applicants, but the lack of suitable applicants that is the challenge. The point is that SLR will not rehome a dog to put a tick in the 'rehomed' box. The time is taken to ensure that the dog and home are the best match (maybe not perfect coz that would be impossible) but that those taking on the dogs are prepared for the work and effort that they may need to put in. xxxx

Don't worry Toni, it wasn't intended as a reply to you, but as a general statement that the public see want and don't listen to what we are saying. And yep Loz - SLR has never been about putting dogs in homes to get numbers or tick boxes, but about making sure that dogs, people, relinquishing owners and fosters are all happy with the end result, and that I can sleep at night knowing that we got it right. We get accused on a regular basis of being too fussy. If people think we are too fussy, it's because they know we are right. The people who trust us know we will get it right and sometimes circumstances aren't right. xxx

You keep doing it your way, Jenny! We all know you're right.
And yes, Katie, she's always superbly behaved when we're out. (Save for the odd occasion she gets nervous when large black dogs approach her on lead.) ... In fact she's a star pretty much all the time, so long as you don't let her get bored.
We're off to meet her new family again in a few minutes. She's going to have a blast! ... And yes, this time I am taking my camera!
In the meantime, I'll leave you all with a short video of her reaction to seeing a cat on the front drive earlier.

All power to the lovely Daisy, she stole a little bit of my heart at Hylands. It's right when it's right and not before. Keep up the good work all xx

Been trying to call you, but your moby just goes to voicemail.
It went great!
Despite our having checked the weather forecast & timed everything accordingly, the heavens opened just as I arrived at Hylands! (And it was a real doozy, not some little shower!) So we did an about-face & went to the pub instead.
Both dogs behaved beautifully in the pub whilst we ate & then we headed back to Hylands for a couple of hours & of zoomies & fun. (Although sadly we had to cut it a little short, as storm #2 came in with a vengeance.)
Daisy definitely remembered Ian & Fred! And she & Fred got on great, although Fred finds Daisy's speed a little intimidating, lol. ... But, by about halfway through the walk, Daisy had figured out that if she ran too fast Fred wasn't going to bother chasing her, so she started pacing herself better & they were soon playing beautifully.
We're hoping to do the handover in the next few days.
Jenny, could you ring me when you get a moment, please?

PS. To those of you who said she was calm in the video, that was after the cat had gone round the corner, lol. When she first sees one she launches herself at the glass with such force I'm always scared she's break it!
But, typically, I never seem to have the camera to hand when it first happens.
