You could borrow our de-humidifier, though I really should give a couple of carpets a clean first and use it to thoroughly dry the carpets.

Comet seems to be gaining in confidence by the day. He needed to go out (or said he did) at 5.30 this morning. Neil was fast asleep of course so when we needed to go back upstairs it was just me and Comet eyeballing each other at the foot of the stairs. I put a lead on him, started going up, was brought up short for a split second by an immovable weight and suddenly Comet was bounding past me up the stairs! I do not know who was more relieved of him or me! The same thing happened when we set out for our walk this morning. He balked at jumping into the car after Dylan and Sophie, then suddenly made up his mind and hopped into it. I am sure people would think I am bonkers if they could see me frozen to the spot waiting for Comet to think about the situation and hopefully make the right decision but it appears to be working. He was quite worried about going through a doorway as well at first if we were holding the door open for him but he will now come through without hesitation when invited to do so. He is going to the vet' s for his post-op check this afternoon. I am slightly worried at the amount of bruising and swelling he has got around the site of the incision but he seems untroubled by it so hopefully he is ok.

Hope the vet's happy with the wound/stitches. Ringo's looking forward to a blast with Comet and doesn't want any excuses from the youngster...

When I first started fostering Alice she had problems going through doors, couldn't get up the stairs and wouldn't jump into the back of the car. She was also really frightened by traffic. She's got over all these problems, although she still doesn't like really busy roads with lots of buses and lorries but I've no doubt she'll get over this too. It's good to hear how the little man is growing in confidence and is so happy with you

We saw the nurse who thought that it was quite swollen and not where she would have expected. Cold compresses plus more Metacam and another check-up tomorrow morning probably with the vet as the nurse seemed a bit unsure. Fingers crossed!

We saw the nurse and the vet this morning. The vet did not think the swelling was a sign of anything going wrong but prescribed more Metacam as it is an anti-inflammatory as well as a pain-killer and a short course of diuretics. We can keep walking him on the lead and we will see how he is on Monday. I was worrying about him last night in case he had done himself any damage in his excitement over Joey's arrival and am very relieved. He does not seem in any discomfort and I had a hard job persuading him to keep his feet on the ground during our walk this morning. He can do a perfect salmon leap into the air at the end of the lead with very little provocation! We have now devised ways of keeping him and Joey apart most of the time as all they want to do is jump on each other and play. The hallway, kitchen and living-room are all being used as dog rooms as well as the crate for Joey when it is siesta time and the bedroom at night for Comet. Some pics from this morning's walk:

Most handsome.
Love the double lead and suspect the leather one's clipped to your belt. Would love to see Comet run in an enclosed/safe area,,, if we dared!!

You guessed right. He is going nowhere without me. Even if it is on my belly being dragged through the mud!

Good and bad news regarding the state of Comet's nether regions. The swelling is finally going down, but the vet estimates it will be another week before the stitches can be removed. It is quite frustrating, particularly for the poor boy who has to stay on lead and refrain from any play. We do try and brighten his days as well as we can. One of his on lead outings included a flowery NGS garden and homemade cake yesterday: There was a cat in the waiting room in the vets' waiting room today and Comet did not seem excited or even interested. He has not tried to jump on any furniture since he arrived and has taken some time to realise what dog beds are for. His house training is 100% and after the first 48 hours he completely stopped picking up odd items and walking off with them. We have not left him alone in the house as we do not trust him not to trash his lampshade, so not able to tell how he would behave yet. He also seems to have just about got over his fear of traffic. When I took him out this morning, he looked fearfully at some passing cars but did not otherwise react. He is impish and affectionate. He loves leaning all his weight against you and has nearly had me over when I was slightly off balance. He is very gentle with all the other dogs here, even with Ollie who is so comfortable with him he does not growl at him (unusual!). All in all he is a very loveable dog with very good house manners. We still have to find out how he will be when we are able to exercise him normally.

What a lovely photo - that has really made me smile. Great update too. Comet seems to be settling in with you a treat. Can't wait to hear of his exploits when he is fully recovered.

Comet is far too clever! He bashed his lampshade against the furniture and the walls for a few seconds before I could stop him yesterday evening and made it fly apart. Cue the leather punch and several bits of string to cobble it back together plus a trip to Countrywide today to get him a narrow padded collar so that we can really anchor the thing for the nights without his neck getting pinched (the edges of the collar I have feel sharp) . I took him with me and he walked nicely along the pavement and around the shop looking perfectly at home. I say walk but he has so much bounce in his step 'prance' would be more accurate. Several people actually turned round to watch him go by. I tried a Dogmatic on him last night and as he seemed happy with it I used it on his walk this morning with a lead on his collar as well. It was a great help on the few occasions we met other dogs off lead as he is now so keen for a romp he can get wildly excited. He is very responsive and a slight nudge on the halter is enough to keep him quiet. We actually went through the middle of five off lead labradors whose owner was chatting in the middle of the lane with only a little whine and no pulling at all. We also saw a muntjac cross a ride in front of us. He was very interested but no noise from him and all four feet stayed on the ground. I think when he is allowed to get proper exercise he is going to calm right down. I am going to get him used to a muzzle just in case he gets carried away at first but he may not need one at all. He reminds me of Dylan who has been a sworn pacifist so far. His fear of cars has gone and it is great to see how confident he has become in such a short while. If he goes on like this he is going to be a take anywhere, do anything with kind of dog. IF he gets enough exercise and stimulation. He definitely likes using his brain.
