I put an update on the transport thread but am going to try and copy it to this thread as it should really be here. Thanks to Debbie and Simon and everybody who helped get Jet here. He seems quite laid back now. After introductions during the course of a short walk, all the dogs are loose in the house and being polite to each other. Well, Sophie was actually quite enthusiastic and Dylan is being understandably slightly standoffish but no aggression from anybody. We have all been very careful about hanging on to Jet at all times but so far he has not shown any desire to go anywhere fast. He is being very gentle and friendly with all of us. I know it is too early to know much about him but he seems very good natured and quite playful already. Ollie is doing his usual growling-at-the-new-boy act and Jet just looks at him as if to say: "what's your problem?" . He really is a very handsome boy: (We left a lead on all the dogs for a while in case of trouble). Jet is having a slight change of identity and has become Comet. He does not respond to Jet so we are not going to confuse him.

Great to meet you today and well done to you bringing the little Jet all the way to Birchanger for Simon and Me to collect for his onward journey to a new life . He settled down in the car after a while and was no trouble even with his two anti escape leads x

We found out last night that Comet does not do stairs or crates. Even food put a little way into the crate with the door wide open does not tempt him to get near. I did not want to leave the four dogs alone together overnight so decided to take Comet up to our bedroom. Total look of horror from Comet when he realised what I was asking him to do! Neil carried him up and he was quite ok with that. He does like Neil and is not weary of him at all. Neil was ready to carry him down this morning but he followed me down the stairs happily and then play bowed and bounded around like a puppy. There is a very playful young dog waiting to come out but he could easily become extremely weary. I can already see that catching him again after letting him loose might be tricky as he has a tendency to tense up ready to jump away when not sure why hands are approaching him. He is not food bribable at the moment and is not eating up his meals even though I only gave him two third of a normal amount for his size this morning. Perhaps a good long walk will wake up his appetite. It is going to be off to the vet tomorrow morning for his boy op providing he passes the vet check, so the usual SLR vibes would be nice, please.

Back from road walk with Comet, Dylan and Sophie. Comet started very scared of all vehicles whether moving or parked and did his best to either give them as wide a berth as possible or literally tried to run away from them. He did calm down after a bit and was ok-ish with parked cars and fairly settled with passing ones as long as he could put all of us between himself and them. And then a kamikaze squirrel crossed the lane right in front of us and I suddenly had 75kg of dogs throwing themselves to the end of their leads! Thanks, Mr. Squirrel, my arms were well exercised without your contribution. One of the nicest things about Comet is his total friendliness towards other dogs, he did not react at all when we met other dogs even though he was on a short lead.

Ouch - squirrels are a flippin nuisance! It is bad enough with one dog at the end if a lead!! I wonder what has made Comet so afraid of cars?

I wonder what has made Comet so afraid of cars? Perhaps he was bumped by one when he went AWOL. Hopefully he'll soon get over his fears and learn that walkies are fun.

Ah! Didn't think to mention, which I see that was stupid of me. After Comet escaped and was loose for 2-3 wks (?), he was re-captured using a dog trap. Think crate with bait inside, waiting to slam shut when he goes inside.
Good luck with the crate training!
Mega vibes for the op young fella. I feel for ya. Truly. :wince:

Things are happening so quickly here, I feel I have to write them down as I would never remember all of them. First Comet has been clean in the house so far, no mistakes, no marking. Second he is a thief. We know I can hear you say, aren't they all? Not out of sheer mischief like Comet. His sense of fun has me in stitches. He has just run off in quick succession with a nailbrush, my mobile phone and a book I had left on the table. It is a game. I call him, he turns round, looks at me impishly, I tell him to give it to me and he drops it with a thud (everything survived unharmed even the phone). He does seem to respond to Comet this morning, or is it just the tone of my voice? Neil has just left with Ollie. He put on Ollie's harness complete with lead and while he was putting his boots on, Comet got hold of Ollie's lead and proceeded to drag Ollie by it around the living-room! He did try stealing my lunch off the table, but one good growl from me and he was lying down all meek and repentant but not remotely cowed. He and Sophie are now having a mad game inside the house after mad zoomies in the yard. How on earth am I going to keep him quiet and entertained after his op?

Just dropping in to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped with his transport and so sorry I disappeared of the (electronic) face of the earth, before I finished organising it all.

he sounds like a fun character. I must admit I'm finding it strange to have a Comet on the forum as I keep thinking it's referring to my Comet. I think this means there's no danger of me succumbing to any temptation so far as adopting is concerned!!!
Great updates and lovely photos! Keep them coming

Commet sounds lovely, just like my Lottie, who also steals things for fun, mainly slippers and tissues . Healing vibes being sent from Devon plus some stay calm vibes
