Met Commet yesterday at St. Francis and thought he was lovely. He didn't seem worried or fazed about the goings on and was taking an interest in his surroundings. It was extremely busy and there were hundreds of people and dogs there. He will make someone a lovely companion.

Fun in the sunshine with Sophie: Until Sophie thought it was time to cool off. Is Comet getting the idea? Not quite. It is enough to have four feet in the water for him:

We made the most of the sunshine yesterday and took all the dogs to Broughton Down, a well-fenced downland near Stockbridge. It is an area of rough grazing and scrub on a hillside with very steep slopes and glorious views. Comet has been working hard on his recall, in the Arboretum in the mornings, and in the local fields on a long line in the afternoons. I had brought the whistle and a pocketful of sausage bits and when we got into the reserve the lead came off. For a first few bewildered seconds Comet started charging down hill, stopped, looked back at us… and came back! We all stopped holding our breath and had a lovely walk among the cowslips, primroses and violets which are flowering at the moment. There were lots of rabbit droppings about and Comet had a glorious time following his nose to the impenetrable bushes where the rabbits hide in their burrows but he came back every time I whistled him even when engrossed in his fruitless quest. His recall training still needs proofing against other more potent distractions but he is doing great so far. Broughton Down pictures: There was a deer just the other side of the fence when we were in the Arboretum this morning and Comet managed to stand up straight on his hind legs to get a better view! Being a sensible chap he stayed calm though and carried on as if nothing had happened as soon as the deer disappeared into the woods. From his reactions to game and small furries it does not look as if he has been worked. He is curious about them but not really excited.

He is looking really fit, healthy and handsome and sounds like an absolute treasure. Why is he still waiting?

Lovely photos. It sounds as though Comet is coming on a treat. Good boy to leave the deer.

I found out today that one thing still scares Comet: RAIN! It started raining just before we were due to go out for our first walk but we all got ready, started to get through the door and Comet went into reverse, fast! He forgot all about the rain as soon as the lead came off though and had the usual mad races with Dylan and Sophie. He will go out in the rain to relieve himself if a) I have put a coat on him and b) I go outside first which means mac and boots for me as well and stay with him until he has finished . I know he is just being a very normal lurcher but what a wuss!

hahaha... sounds familiar. In fact his namesake, my Comet, is exactly the same. When I open the back door when it's raining he looks at me as though I were about to torture him and runs away. I swear he'd call the RSPCA if he could get hold of my mobile phone.

Not such a wuss after all. Two big claps of thunder very close to us and Comet did not even seem to notice while Ollie barked at it of course and Dylan jumped up on the look out trunk with his best "I am going to see this off, guys" look .
