Comet is so well integrated into our normal routine that he seems to have been here forever. He even allowed me to send him back to bed at 6.30 this morning and let me get up at 7. I am hoping we have turned a corner and I am now the one who says "Time to get up!" He has become a very well-adjusted dog, friendly and with no irrational fears any longer. He eats, plays, goes in the car, comes in and out of the house and asks to go outside when needed in the same relaxed manner as the rest of the pack. His fitness has improved very quickly since he has been allowed to run free and he can now outrun and outlast his playmates. He may even have the edge being that bit younger! It is wonderful to see him gallop and jump over bushes and ditches at playtime delighting in trying to outwit his friends. He is both quick moving and quick thinking! He is also a very flashy mover thanks to his four white socks matched by the white tip to his tail. A real looker. His enthusiasm when playing and running is thankfully balanced by his capacity for relaxing into a deep sleep for hours on end after a run. There must be more than a bit of greyhound in his make-up. His recall is greatly helped by his deep love of sausages as he knows there are always some on tap when he comes to me. And he takes great care not to stray too far from them! The kleptomania he seemed to be suffering from when he first arrived has completely disappeared but he is still partial to a nice bit of waste paper of cardboard if he finds any lying around and he could easily replace the shredder! He has not damaged anything in the house so is obviously very conscious of our things being out of bounds. He is still a great character and a bit of a fool at times always ready for a romp if one of the other dogs wants a game. His temperament is great. He can get excited when he is on lead and we meet strange dogs but there is no aggression at all there, he is just dying to go and say hello and is perfectly friendly and polite when allowed to do so. If anybody interested in him is reading this, do not take too long to make up your mind as I am less and less in a hurry to see this gorgeous easy chap go away! Only joking, he is a very lovely dog and nobody will be more pleased than me the day he finds his forever home. He is a funny, affectionate and very trainable young dog.

Wonderful update Annette. I'd add he's got a very impressive coat of many colours/designs, pretty much symentrical. A bit of a dandy! When he runs, his white socks flash-out and extenuate his stride. Almost hypnotic to watch,,, and that was before he trully regained fitness. Looking forward to another run soon, with Ringo and Joey to keep him busy. That's if he's not gone beforehand.... Great work Annette. You're a star.

Comet has been going out with the rest of the pack every day for a bit and I have had it in mind to take him on his own with me again to find out how he would react to strange dogs now without the pack's support and also to see how confident he would be generally without his mates around him. We did this earlier today after he had had some mad races with Dylan and Sophie. He was on lead and he was very good and kept his attention on me. Even when a New Foundland teenager came bounding up to him all he did was play bow to her and give a friendly yip. We also sat quietly close to a group of horses then walked through them and he paid them no attention. I am nearly over my 'bug' so will try and set up a cat test in the next few days. Fingers crossed!

Comet and I made our way to my friend's Mum and her cats for his cat test this afternoon. Unfortunately when we arrived the dog friendly cat was nowhere to be seen but the other dog-eating cat was in residence! Poor Comet behaved in an exemplary fashion, he took one look at the cat staring at him like a ferocious bottle-brush on the other side of the room and hid behind my legs! After a strategic retreat we then met the nice cat outside the house and Comet did not react at all apart from giving him a curious look. I am quite confident that Comet has no evil thoughts toward cats and should be very cat trainable. Another plus point for the lovely chap.

So good to read this and see pictures of this lovely boy, he looks so different from the bedraggled, skinny little thing I was called out to collect one cold night. I hope your forever home comes along soon wee boy ♡

Comet, Neil and I went to the St Francis Dog Show this afternoon. It was very well attended and people and dogs were jostling each other in the tight space available. A little bit stressful for Comet but he kept his cool and welcomed the attentions of people and dogs with his usual good manners . A bit of pilchard cake from the SLR stand helped of course! We went to say hello to the donkey and to the goats and watched the show ring for a bit and Comet was the perfect companion. His friendliness and looks got him noticed and a few people asked about him. I can honestly say that no, he is not hard work, yes, he does need regular exercise with free running but he will have a long sleep afterwards, and he does love playing, either with other dogs or with anybody willing to throw something for him to retrieve or to engage in a tug-of-war.

When we saw Comet today he was taking it all in his stride. A real lovely chap a little different from the scared chap when me and Simon picked him up a few weeks back . You have done a super job Annette x
