He seems to have now admitted defeat re. the cone! Thankfully, he is not trying to give us the slip, not even when coming out of the car any longer. We are not taking any chances obviously but he seems to have lost the urge to barge out and shoot off which was so worrying.

Few wish to escape from doggy heaven. With his history/background, he thinks he's dreaming it! But it's the sudden shocks/surprises that could cause a reaction and return to his previous state of mind. Maybe even a sight or smell. Taking no chances must be the best policy for some time. When should he have free-movement rights? Another trip to the vets lined up for a check?

He is booked in to have his stitches out on Monday. He could have had them out tomorrow but the vets will not take stitches out just before the week-end in case something goes wrong. I will need to make sure he has recall before he is let loose as well. With his athleticism if he has been taught to jump, even an enclosed field may be a risk. Also I do not know how much exercise he will be allowed immediately after the stitches have been removed. I have had dogs on a 10 metre line with harness before but do not fancy it with Comet's energy levels being sky high at the moment. Somebody braver and stronger might volunteer? Poor Neil will probably be volunteered actually. I do not know how I would cope without him!

Hhhmph... Shame the evenings aren't a little lighter for longer, else might be able to meet one evening next week, subject to stitch removal go well and some scheme to enable Jet to not go supersonic too soon. But they're not. So weekend after next it is, I hope.

Did I say something about jumping? Comet must have read my mind! He has happily stayed whichever side of the child gate he was put since he arrived but this morning, from a standstill, he just flowed over the useless thing giving me yet more grey hairs. I have checked his undercarriage and it looks ok but I will be glad when he has been passed 'fit' by the vet. Right now he is in the garden in the rain, digging a tunnel to Australia in the mud.

Good looks and very bright, he is going to be a soul dog for someone and they will be so lucky.

Comet got up on a settee today for the first time and Joey joined him for some quiet play. Until Comet pinned him against the back of the settee! Learning to play with humans. This live wire can be very gentle:

Squished Joey pic is one for the caption competition I think. Well done Annette - you are doing a great job with your two fosters.

lovely updates and great photos. Alice does that squishing thing to my Comet! She tries to pretend it's just because she's only young and not quite co-ordinated but I've seen through that... it's her way of getting him going so that he will play fight
