So pleased Comet's op went ok. He certainly sounds quite a character! After Merlin was hit by a car he was terrified by traffic so that is possibly the reason Comet is scared. Merlin has virtual got over it now but doesn't like to walk to the right from our house as that is where he got hit! Good luck with the dog walking, I hope you don't meet too many squirrels!

Comet is back home, has had scrambled eggs and rice and is sleeping peacefully. As well as his op he had some superfluous eyelashes that were growing towards his eyes plucked off and the vets threw in a nail trim as a freebee. It is beginning to sound as though he went to the beauty salon instead of the vet! I am now pondering whether to fit him with a cone or with Neil's swimming shorts overnight. Noodles looked quite fetching in his. I must see if I can make it work.

I sympathise with you because I think Wizard is similar. He steals anything and everything and keeping him calm after his op was impossible. I gave up on day 3. When the vet said keep him quiet I laughed out loud.... no idea! Comet looks similar, maybe a bit of collie and lots of something mad!! If it's any comfort Wizard has and is slowly getting less crazy and not so scared, would run away if allowed, of going out of the home environment so I think Comet will improve too!

Comet is determined to lick the sore places so foolproof protection has had to be put in place. Cone attached to a collar. He tried his hardest to shake and paw it off for a few seconds then forgot all about it to come and beg for some of the chicken I have been steaming for his morning meal. He is back to lying down quietly and Neil will not have to share his swimming trunks after all. Not that he would miss them Simon, I cannot remember the last time he went for a swim!

Stop licking Comet ! Glad he is ok but a collar is often the only answer as you know and they soon get used to it . Keep up the good work Annette and Neil and keep your pants to yourself mate

We had a rather disturbed night with Comet being unsettled and bashing his cone into furniture on a regular basis but things are much better this morning. The cone has come off and Comet seems to have forgotten about licking. I took him for a little walk up the nearest footpath and he was brilliant, still weary of cars on the way to the path but no panic vibes. He walks rather well on the lead, not at heel but definitely on a loose lead slightly in front of you. An easy big boy to walk after all. He has a slightly prancing gait which can turn bouncy with a little bit of excitement. Very much like a happy little pony at times!

Off in the rain for a walk this morning with Sophie, Dylan and Comet all together for the first time. It was a short drive to the start of our walk and Comet surprised me once again. He has been fine getting into the car on his own, jumping in without fuss. This time, I asked Dylan and Sophie to jump in first as I know I can trust them to stay put until I close the boot, I turn around to Comet and he goes into reverse fast looking panicky and rearing up. When he calmed down I picked him up and put him in and he was absolutely fine, lay down during the drive and did not stress at all. He is definitely not scared of Sophie and Dylan. Hopefully the car will mean nice walks and not getting shunted around or vets soon. I accept I cannot predict how he is going to react to very ordinary things but I really wish I could read his mind. He still has to be carried upstairs but came down by himself today without huddling against my legs. It is a shame that such a kind, friendly young dog has been subjected to the traumatic situations he obviously still remembers.
