Little Poppy is on her way to a sofa and lots of TLC with Graham and Tina, at her foster home. A lovely couple picked her up this morning from a home where she was isolated, lonely and just in the way. She had spent a lot of her time outside and alone. The lovely couple thought she was a whippet and took her to a whippet Rescue, who couldn't take her in and rang us. Knowing how strapped we are for fosters, I was going to say no, but I put out a plea. Lovely Tina and Graham have offered to foster her and Graham drove up to Harlow tonight to pick her up from the couple. They have had one hell of a day, but drove a long way to bring her into us because they wanted to help. Daisy is lovely. She is friendly, soon took her tail out between her legs and gave lovely hugs and licks. She is around 2/3 years old and only around 23" to the shoulder. All they need is love and a chance... There are so many out there in this situation. She will have the best we can get, and I think this little one will not want little children around her as she has been tormented a lot already.

Just quickly before I go to work.
She is gorgeous, photos are never going to do this girl justice. She is so petite and pretty. She's a real cutie in the personality department too. She's full of nervous energy at the moment but she was clean in the house all night even though she was a little unsettled - though so were we - pregnancy tends to make me not sleep too well.
She's smart too. Responds to being called, sits and offers her paw and when stroked goes straight for submissive laying on her back.
My oldies are taking it in their stride, she's not sure what to make of them, she initiates play and seems to want to sniff them and be with them and then gets scared when they respond!
Hopefully they will get on we'll today. G is leaving later than usual and my dog sitter is looking forward to meeting her.
Have a good day people x

Daisy is one smart cookie. She can open doors, including the front door! On Friday she got out but we got her back and have now added bolts to doors with no further issues. If the person who adopts her has a double locking door this won't be a issue but she can open internal doors. She is at present suffering some separation anxiety when left but we are hoping to break this. She is following us around - mainly Graham whom she adores. She is an anxious little thing. We have filmed her when out and she does whine and pace at the moment but she has had a lot of changes. When we have come home we have come home to a poo and a wee which may be because she is anxious. We will be trying to get her used us going out and leaving her this weekend so she can learn we are coming back. She has not however chewed or destroyed anything. She is good on the lead. She is good with the hounds though at present she doesn't quite know when to leave Shadow alone despite his warnings. She is cuddly and submissive, often laying down and rolling over if she is in doubt of anything. She is a good guard dog and doesn't miss a thing but she's not overly barky. We bathed/showered her in the garden yesterday and she was as good as gold. She's had her first injection and at present is having treatment for some ear mites. She is just anxious and needs somewhere she can feel secure but she is an absolute heart breaker. [/img]

Bless her. She is gorgeous. I am not surprised by the SA - bet she thinks if she lets you out her sight she may end up back where she came from Dixi suffered very severe SA, but is slowly getting better. Give her a big hug from us. xxx

Any advice on what to do? We are trying to leave her for varing periods so she knows we are coming back. Keeping her well exercised and she has a bed to lay on in a room away from the other hounds if needed.

Gosh, Daisy is a clever little cookie if she can open the doors... but you have now added bolts so hopefully she's got the message (lol). Tina, if she suffers from SA, have you got a crate you could use to try and start getting her used to it? Daisy may not like the idea very much but if it is nice and cosy (maybe with a few toys and treats inside?) she might get the idea it is a little 'home from home?' Perhaps you could try a few minutes at first, then come back to let her back into the room and gradually leave her in the crate a bit longer until she knows that a crate can be a safe place? I know it can take a very long time, but little Elmer saw our Nicole using the crate regularly and eventually it 'clicked' and he realised that nothing could 'happen' to him if he goes inside ...... ;D ........ as long as the door is open! But that is another story! (lol) Good luck! Viviane. X

Am happy to try and crate and try it with the door open but we simply could not lock her in for the amount of hours we are out at work. Have never used a crate before but would love her to feel relaxed.

Give it a try, Tina, perhaps just for a few minutes when you are at home and see how it goes. Maybe after a good walk or a game in the garden when she is feeling a bit tired? And NO, don't lock her in for hours! Just try it slowly and gently. Viviane. X

With Penny we had a sort of Den she could go to. Would that work?
