Not yet. He went for another health check tonight. Anil has said that he is totally blind in his right eye now and nearly blind in his left eye. He can't be definite on his life expectancy, but he has between 1-2 years if his heart dosn't deteriorate. The good news is that his diet of purina ph and minced beef has stablised his allergies and he only has little mishaps with his wee infrequently now. The Trustees will talk about the future. I am quite happy for him to remain here, but that takes me up to 8 permanents, although our lovely Esme is not good. That limits me to what I can fosters as Mr. Grumpy doesn't do pups too well!!

Sorry to hear that Rory's eyesight is so poor I hope that either he can stay with you Jenny or if someone comes forward and can offer Rory a home to live out his time in comfort. Rory will always have a special place in my heart, please give him a gentle ear ruffle and a from me xx Lots of positive vibes to gorgeous Esme as well xx

Thanks for all your good wishes. I was a bit upset to have to make this decision (made with Jenny) - hence my silence for a few days.
Sadly the ankle and esp the foot are still giving a lot of trouble, and I can't walk or drive very far yet (or sleep very well hence this late-night missive!).
The other big problem is that being so unsteady on my feet, and my floors here being medieval or tudor and very uneven, it's dangerous to have a dog following me around. And with there just being the two of us, he did follow me around, very closely - he'd get off the sofa and follow me to the kitchen or loo. Losing his sight wouldn't help that at all.
I realise it's tough for Jenny having so many dogs in the house but I hope Esmé and Rory will be able to stay together for as long as she is around. I suggested there might come a time further down the line if he gets too old and crock to enjoy walks, and I'm a bit more mobile, he might come back for his last months if the other dogs get too much for him and he no longer has Esmé.
But for now I feel he's going to be better off in his pack, than here with me. I can't give him much of a life at all right now as I hardly go out myself, the foot being so painful.

What a sad and a no win situation for all concerned Sorry to hear your ankle is giving you so many problems still Sara hope your quality of life improves and you will be pain free and feeling better soon. When you are on your own and have to look after yourself life is not easy some times. I know Rory will be loved and looks after to the end of his days with Jenny so a happy outcome for him at least.

So sorry to read that you had to make this decision. Loads of respect for you, you must miss the little man very much. Lovely that he and Esme are good friends though. I hope your ankle continues to heal x

I keep looking at that lovely pic of him and Esmé sharing their daybed, and don't feel so bad Don't forget that it's now longer since I last saw him, than I had him, so that does soften the blow. So long as he's safe and loved, that is ALL that matters - and I know he is.
Thanks for all your kind wishes!
I have a few things to send over to Jenny but I'm bunkered in here right now, in the snow!

Rory is not a snow boy, but he will got out in it with his coat on. He loves to sleep the day away and shares a bed with anyone who offers. x

That's great that he is so content with the other dogs and gets comfort and company from them. Maybe the snow makes it even more difficult for him to get his bearings, quite apart for the cold which no doubt makes his stiffness worse!
I still feel riddled with guilt over the way things turned out and always will, but I take great comfort in hearing news of him (just as Sue Meek took great comfort in having news from me). Rory is so loveable in his self-contained little way, and not demanding at all.

Sara! You shouldn't be feeling guilty! It's not like you CHOSE to break your leg. Unfortunately life often throws us curve balls, it's not your fault. xxx

Rory is very sprightly. He loves to come out on the walks and easily keeps up with the biggies. I take an extendable lead out with me so that I can keep track of him as he forgets where I have gone and runs off in the wrong direction. He loves his dinners, and loves being part of a bigger pack. He keeps Tag in order, much to Tag's disgust ;D He is a very happy and chirpy chappie. His coat is growing towards the tail but still bare along the backbone line. But he no longer scratches or shakes his head. His name has developed to Rory McGory. It just suits him. I'm not sure that that one year lifespan is right, as he no longer snorts or gets puffed out. I reckon he has a bit left in him yet, and so does he. ;D We love this little man to bits because he just has such a big character. And he won't take any nonsence from the big dogs on the block, even if they are 6 times as big as him. He is almost blind now, but that doesn't bother him either. A short video below of him listening to the frog on the Jonathan Ross Show. The only dog here to be interested. ;D

Lovely to have news of him - I'm missing him lots but still not walking very well (coming along very slowly!).
He was very lively here - here always got very excited at walkies time bouncing up and down, and ran around with great enjoyment outside on our trails. He did jump on or chase the occasional black dog esp labs, which was funny when it wasn't nerve-wracking! He def likes to show his dominance haha. Bless him - lots of ear-ruffles and scritches from me.

Well, Rory has now been with us a year!! I can't believe it has been a year. His health is up and down. He now has kidney disease. It is difficult to treat his teeth and last week an op had to be stopped as he was so distressed he flaked out under the pre-med. He will have anti-biotics from time to time to fight any gum infections and ear infections. He is a chirpy little man and still jigs up and down to go for his walks. He eats well, rules the roost here, but the pack seem to know that he is vulnerable and let him get away with it. His sight is failing, blind in his right eye, but he still has a good quality of life. He has a cheeky character, a big dog in a little dog body. He's doing well. xx
