Yep. My 3 do it too. In fact Tyler had quite an episode of it last evening while lying upside down in a full roach. She didn't bother getting up and it didn't seem to worry her so I'm not worrying either. I hope its the same with Victor.

Thanks for you reassurances. I wouldn't be so worried about it if it was on the odd occasion or once a day, but this happens several times a day, however since being on the steriods he is having about 3 or 4 episodes a day. Off to the vets this afternoon for Victors 2nd lot of injections. Victor continues to do well, constantly wanting food though!!

Bess was put on steriods for four days after her stroke and she was asking for food all day long.

This sounds exactly like Aoife. She stops what she's doing and sucks air in, if you google inverted sneeze there is a really good youtube clip of a dog doing the same. Vet said it was nothing to worry about, a lot of dogs do it, and lurchers are prone to it as they tend to have a slightly lower pallet that other dogs? Hope it just turns out to be a normal inverted sneeze thingy

Thanks, I had never heard of inverted sneezing before or realised how many dogs "suffer" from it! The videos on You Tube are exactly what Victor is having. Apparently it can be caused by an allergy, so if the steriods do work then it may be that Victor can have the episodes controlled by anti-histimines. As I said before I wouldn't be so worried if it was a couple of times a day or on the odd occasion but Victor is having this episodes several times a day and sometimes he seems quite stressed about it. At least I know that it is relatively common problem and nothing really to worry about! Thanks again everyone for your input.

After consultation with the SLR Trustees, it has been decided that Victor will be a sponsored dog for life. Rachel has agreed to be his foster carer for the rest of his lovely time with them. ;D This thread will stay open, but Victor is joining the list of dogs sponsored by SLR and is being moved to that section. A sponsored dog is sponsored for life by the Rescue, who take on the financial responsibilities, sometimes all of the vet bills as in the case of Victor, and sometimes some of the Vet bills where the dog is adopted but has a condition.

Congratulations and what a lovely decision you made, Rachel and Chris ;D ALTHOUGH.............. I did think at some point it was inevitable as he is such a lovely little character! Needless to say he surely will be a very much loved little hound and be very happy with you! Viviane. X

I have top admit this, as weird as it sounds, a couple of nights ago I dreamt that you failed and kept Victor- it was so vivid I had to check to see it hadn't actually happened (and it hadn't as of yesterday). Well obviosuly I have the gift. Well done all.

Thank you all. I think as soon as I brought Victor home, I was so so hoping that Jenny and the SLR committee would decide that Victor would be a SLR sponsored dog. We can't afford to pay his vets bills but can pay for his keep etc. He is a little sweetheart but does have a feisty side to him however I do think it is alot to do with his poor eyesight and him knowing that he is not as fit as he once was but still wanting to prove he can be a top dog!! I am proud of my girls accepting him so well, even if Millie and Ginny do try to do bitey face with him once in a while I will just have make sure I do a few more car boot sales, shows etc etc to ensure that funds are going into the kitty!!

Sorry about lack of photos I will try and rectify that over the next few days! Victor went to the vets this morning with regards to his teeth. The gums are looking much better but there is one tooth that has plaque build-up which doesn't seem to want to shift. The vet is going to see if she remove the plaque without having to put Victor under sedation. To continue with the daily brush and toothpaste! Victor restarts his vaccinations on the 14th so hopefully the tooth will be done then. Right better get my camera out!
