Ollie is doing quite well today. I collected him this morning, and now its just a case of keeping him reasonably quiet and making sure his leg is well rested. I have a feeling that tonight, he is not going to be best pleased at having to stay in his crate all night, especially as i am going to put a buster on him. He has only on the odd occasion licked his wound,.... apparently he didnt attempt to in the vets,... but this afternoon, i have caught him going to lick it a couple of times, so tonight, unfortunately the buster collar goes on, ...just in case,..... then when i get up in the morning, it can come off for the day. This boy is just so so adorable. There is no doubt that he loves the company of other dogs. He seems to have more of a waggy tail when he sees them, that when he sees us, although with each day, he is coming round a little more. He is still not sure when anyone puts their hand out to stroke him, but he is quite happy to be stroked when he ls laying down next to us. Hopefullly as each day passes, Ollies leg will become stronger to enable him to start walking on it again. Our next check up at the vets is on monday afternoon, with the stitches coming out in 10-14 days time. All he needs now, is lots and lots of healing thoughts, .......and thankyou for those already sent

Just a quick update on the lovely Ollie. Today we have been back to the vets for a post op check up. Mr Walters is very pleased with his progress, although reiterated that the healing process should be slow, and that the convalesance should be 12weeks, and possibly longer due to the fact that Ollie has also had the cartlidge removed from his knee. Ollies wound looks really good, and healing perfectly. The stitches will be removed in a weeks time,. Ollie is now really settled with us, especially me, but is still very unsure of men, or any body he does not know, and will shy away from them, even though he has spent a lot of time with pete, he is still very unsure of him. He can spend all night laying next to him on our bed, then when Pete comes in from work, he will try and hide. Ollie just needs time to be able to trust people, having been let down so far in life. His life is now on the up

So pleased that Ollie is healing well and hope that continues. As you say it will take time for Olllie to really trust people again, but now he is knowing love and comfort and soon no pain in his leg, he will be fine

Sorry Nina - I'm only just catching up on some of the forum. Kasa behaves exactly the same with Mark. If he's lying in bed, under the covers, she'll even lay on him but, if he gets up she' goes wary and, if he goes out and comes back in, ie. from work) then she is scared of him all over again But we are finding that the confident periods are getting longer and that she recovers from being scared much more quickly You do have to wonder how they got to be this way don't you .......

glad Ollie is healing well and the operation went well, lots of positive healing wishes, we hope Ollie gets used to men and is no longer so fearful of them but it is good to hear you have struck up a very close bond with him already and can enjoy that closeness and cuddles

What a gorgeous boy he is . Hope he goes from strength to strength and learns to trust. So sad that 'humankind' has undoubtedly had a part to play in that

How's Ollie getting on

How's Ollie getting on thankyou for asking. i must admit i have been really bad at updating due to such a busy few weeks, back and forth to the vets with 2 dogs having ops, and mum been in hospital, and daughter also needing my assistance, but........ Ollie is just gorgeous He is still under the vets of course, and i have to take him back for another check up in the week running up to christmas, and then i am hoping that he will then be allowed to go out for lead walks. It is getting increasingly difficult to make him walk slowly in the garden when he goes out for toilet. He really does want to run with the others, and i have to hold him back. The crate that Laylah has lent me, has been a godsend, as he is quite happy to go in there, and so i ensure that he has rest periods, every few hours, when he is not walking on his leg. He is still very shy, but he is now blossoming with each day. He loves the other dogs, and feels very content in their company, but he does follow me literally everywhere, he is my little shadow. When anybody else comes into the room, he will often leave the room, and observe from round the corner, not being sure whether they should be trusted or not. He is also still quite handshy, and if a hand is put out to him, he will back off, but is quite happy to be stroked, when he is laying next to us. He is also now starting to play, and has a passion for socks, throwing them up in the air, then catching them. The other day i thought he had found an odd one of the floor, until i realised he had taken the lot off the radiator, that i had hung there to dry I felt then, that we had turned a corner, and he was starting to come out of himself a bit more, and be playful, rather than the depressed and withdrawn boy, that we collected 5 weeks ago. He also likes to rip paper, and i have caught him having a little nibble at the duvet cover on my bed, but the other day, i was wearing a jumper, when i suddently noticed a large gaping hole underneath the arm,....and i mean large... how i had put the jumper on without noticing, i will never know, i had been wearing it a few hours ..anyway, that had also been on my bed, so he,d had a nibble at that too. But all that makes me realise he is feeling more comfortable in his surroundings, and making himslef at home. I have to report that he is also sleeping in our room at night, ...often on the bed i had vowed not to let him do this, but i am just so weak when he was unable to keep his buster collar on after his op, i was so afraid that he would attack his stitches in the night, that i had him lay on the bed next to me. Big mistake ... he now thinks its his bed, and howls like mad if i try to leave him downstairs. He might be shy, but he llikes his home comforts i will let you all know how the next vets visit goes, and hopefully will get some more photos on for you all in the next few days.
