Very sadly poor little Maisie is back with us again. Her new home didn't work out, through no fault of her own. Her adopters were not confident enough to let Maisie off the lead and she was going stir crazy. When she was allowed out in the garden she did not want to come in. When she was out on lead exercise she pulled. Maisie is a very young dog, only about 18 months old and needs to be able to exert some energy off-lead. She is now safely back in the hands of Nina her fosterer in Aylesbury, and apart from being very quiet when she arrived is starting to play again with Finn. Maisie needs to go to a home where she will be allowed off-lead exercise and a male playmate. She was very cooped up before she came into rescue and needs some fun. She is a lovely little dog and gets on fine with the family dog Finn and their older bitch Callly. She has been off-lead since coming back and is having some fun. She will need to be neutered in April. Maisie will NOT be rehomed to anyone who works more than a few hours a day. She deserves an active and loving family. She also needs a soul mate to play with. Male please..Here she is. I am sure that Nina will be putting on some more info tomorrow.

Poor little Maisie, never mind second time lucky. I am sure that Nina is more than pleased to look after Maisie for a while. She will soon find the right home second time around.

Ahh, sorry to hear Maisie is back, but better to end up in the right home for all concerned, she probably thought she was on holiday...
She looks like SUCH a sweetie though...

she really is a sweetie anna jean, are we pleased to have her back? yes and no!!!! as soon as jenny phoned to say things had not worked out for her, we wanted her back straight away, no question. but last time we found it so hard to let her go, but after a few days thought she was settled and it was time for us to move on, have a week away, then come back refreshed and available if needed for another foster. now we are going through those same feelings all over again, but this time it is harder, especially as she has settled back in so well. she was very subdued when she first arrived back, and quieter than before, but a few days in fins company, and it was like she had never been away. we have let her off lead, and gosh can she run, like the wind even fin can't keep up with her. and also she does not pull on the lead !!! my daughter is also been walking her each day - twice yesterday - that worries me is there too much bonding going on there !!!! wish i had a crystal ball to see into the future, would make things so much easier nina x

Sounds like an FF to me too ;D My little blonde bombshell Flax had to be onlead for a few days after she gouged holes in herself wrestling with a bramble patch in pursuit of a wabbit on Easter Monday and wow was she pleased to be released again! ;D Maisie sounds and looks rather similar

Maisie do, and Maisie does ;D All she needed was some freedom and a blast, and what Nina saw when she let her off the lead was a dog who was so so pent up from restrictions, she spread her wings and flew. But did she fly away? No... Because she now feels safe. All she wanted was some freedom and fun. Nina, you are doing a grand job. I am so sorry that we have made it twice as hard for you. I DO know exactly how you are feeling as I have had to give up 3 dogs so dear to me that I still ache, especially for the love of one of them. Tag will break our hearts when he goes onto his forever home, especially as you said on the phone, we do all the hard work, mould them into super little dogs and someone else gets the benefit. But not just someone else getting the benefit, but those lovely dogs that we mould. I have so much admiration for you and Pete. And thank you for taking her again.

There's nothing stopping you ;D I said that to Ian; I would wait a year to get to know Bran then think about another one, failed. Mind you I wouldn't change it for the world, seeing them play together in the back garden. They just go everywhere together now; if one moves the other follows.

trying to stay focused here, - As fosterers!!!! i suppose we have to care about all the dogs otherwise we couldn,t be good fosterers, so it is always gonna be hard to let them go, but if the right home comes along for maisie, hopefully it will be easier. for the right family, she is going to be just fantastic, and will give so much love in return. She is such a cuddle monster, so be warned, if you don,t want to spend hours making a fuss of her, and giving her cuddle now and again, she is not the dog for you. I have asked Jenny to give preference to anyone who lives within a few feet of me. ;D ;D ;D

Hello everyone - Maisie's previous adoptive family back again. We have just seen that Maisie has been put back up for adoption and are very upset that it's not possible for her to stay with Nina - although, as Nina says there are so many dogs that need her home for a foster. We'd just like to say a couple of things, hope that's ok? We could not have wished for a more perfect companion than Maisie indoors. She is, as Nina has mentioned, a complete cuddle monster and anybody who meets her will fall in love straight away. There are several reasons for us not being able to give Maisie the stability of a permanent home and the decision to rehome was not taken lightly at all and we took it as a family with Maisie's future at the forefront of our minds. Jenny, you've mentioned a couple of things that I'd just like to expand on. "Her adopters were not confident enough to let Maisie off the lead and she was going stir crazy." Maisie wasn't going stir crazy and was let off lead in our large garden - our confidence was knocked as she kept running at our fences and jumping at them. As she could see through the fences (at the rabbits, pheasents etc) through in the fields beyond, her instict told her to chase. "what Nina saw when she let her off the lead was a dog who was so so pent up from restrictions, she spread her wings and flew." "But did she fly away? No... Because she now feels safe." I'm really upset by this jenny. Maisie felt completely safe with us and never showed anything other than complete trust in us. Yes, we did have to impose some restrictions on her when we were out walking as most of the time a very busy main road was only a few feet away. She did 'spread her wings and fly' in our garden but her safety was our paramount and we simply couldn't guarantee that which wasn't fair on Maisie. Maisie pulled on the lead when we walked her because she had a dozen distractions at every turn (ie, rabbits, hares, phesants etc right under her nose) - it was obvious that Maisie hadn't come across all these exciting new things before up close and we didn't foresee how she might react to it all. I've often thought of her as a child in a sweet shop - she had everything she could have wished for. None of this was Maisie's fault. We have never, ever done anything like this before and never thought that we would be unable to home her. It broke our hearts to return her to Nina we so dearly hope that Maisie finds her permanent home very very soon. We shan't post on the SLR board again as I don't think it will help with Maisie's rehoming and it's too upsetting to know that we weren't 'the ones' - as well Nina can understand....... Good luck little Maise - we will always think of you and smile as we see you run; run free and be happy little girl.

Thank you for posting Helen. It must have been so hard for you to do this. Thank you also for your honesty. She is a free little spirit that just needs to be that. I know how upset you have all been letting her go. Lurchers are a breed unto themselves. They live for the wind, for the chase and for the freedom. Maisie is a true little lurcher.
Thank you for trying to be her forever home. As you say, she is back with Nina and will be fine.
I hope that you can find a little love to fill the gap and when you do please let us all know. It was just not meant to be with Maisie. God bless. Jennyx

Helen do not get upset for being conscience of the safety and wellbeing of a strange dog that you have had for a very short space of time. No harm has been done to Maisie and I am sure that you are more than suitable to be a sensible lurcher owner. Incidently Maisie has a lot of terrier in her moreso than lurcher which would account for her erratic behaviour. Not a dog for the novice owner I would think Sue

Maisie has had visitors. ;D She has been out for a good walk on lead with them, and was a very good little girl on the lead. She then had some off-lead play in a very large field. Played ball and raced around. Recall was very good. Nina says that she is continuing to be a lovely girlie. All I can say is "Watch this space".

I certainly agree with you in this instance - when I collected Maisie from her previous owner my first thought was that but for the age difference she could be Bridie's littermate, & Bridie is a Whippet/Bedlington cross:

oh my goodness, they are SO alike angie, i also agree with your comments, maisie has lived with us for coming up 6weeks in total now, and i have NEVER seen any eratic behavior, she is such a gentle loving dog. this afternoon, maisie has had her visitors back again, but this time with their children. we went for a lovely walk again, and the children took maisie on her lead all the way, they had absoloutely no problems. maisie didn't pull at all, bless her!! even when we encountered all the ducks. so again, watch this space!! they would be a lovely family for maisie, and she would love playing with the children, 9, and 12. maisie deserves only the best, and until she gets that, we will be here for her. but things are looking very positive for maisie right now
