A quick update on Peppa... (all gentle squidges passed on btw!) She's settling in great. We've managed to anticipate about two thirds of her "need to pee" moments and quickly pop her onto a slip lead and get her out to the patio to perform. Although this was so frequent on Saturday and most of Sunday morning that we didn't do very well at all on those days - yesterday evening and today was much better. Mainly because the ABs have kicked in so her cystitis is improving. ;D She's also gone outside by herself to toilet several times today, more by luck than judgement, but we were pleased! She is absolutely full of beans, into all sorts of mischief and eats like a horse. (Why play with your new toys, when you can haul a log from the bag by the woodburner, drag it round the house, and tear all the bark off it into little pieces as you go? And piling up all sorts of things in a huge heap in the hall, and falling asleep on top of them is only worth doing if it includes at least one welly bigger than you are, apparently...) Her bark is loud and fierce for a young 'un - it really surprised both of us when we heard it while she and Lottie were playing. Our girls don't bark much indoors or out. Lottie thinks Peppa's the best toy she's ever had, as you can see, they are having more lovely lurcher play. Lucy doesn't really know how to play, she just watches it all go by. And Tig's usually so focussed on trying to find someone to throw a ball, (any ball), that I'm not even sure she's noticed Peppa much. She often wears one ear over her face like this: (and sometimes accompanies it with a wrinkly little puzzled look that is hugely endearing) I love this next photo! I can't help thinking Tig has totally surprised herself by allowing a strange dog to get up close on the sofa without her permission. And Peppa looks as if she is laughing at those Grippet ears. I can't think why, they look perfectly lovely to me! It is difficult to see in the photos, but Peppa has an all over scattering of long hairs starting to peep through the normal ones; I think she's going to be quite a big, rufty, tufty young lady when she grows up. Anyone got any ideas what mix she might be? Angie

Enjoying the update and delightful piccies from puppy Peppa and, yep, looks like she is full of beans! ;D She is quite a stocky little girl, reminding me a bit of Bilbo Baggins (Dave's dog). There may be some ridgeback in her, somewhere along the line? See what others think! Viviane. X

How could you just let a dog go at any time of year, let alone in this weather? I'd string 'em up! Having said that, at least we got our lovely little boy when someone threw him out. Good luck - she's a cracker!

Just a few more pics of this adorable little girl. Just as well we can't afford to keep four.... She's settled in quickly. these are from yesterday- One of today's- Apparently just everybody's wearing their ears that way this autumn. Angie's part way through rewriting War and Peace an interminable post about her toilet habits and stuff so I'll let her put the rest of todays pics on when she finishes it later. Nick

War and Peace? Hmmph! Lost my epic last post last night, having perfected, previewed, adjusted and submitted it. Long Pause. "Webpage has expired". IE probs, lost the lot. Put the light out and went to sleep instead. Take 2. Peppa's doing fine. Learning to lean, roach, and wrap Nick around her little toe. Oh and sometimes go out of the dogflap by herself to the patio and toilet there. Which is a case of every little helps. We often have to almost drag her outside to toilet and keep her on a lead to stop her dashing back indoors for a wee or a poo. Weird or what? But she is improving, with lavish praise and often a treat every time she finds herself going outdoors. Today is her last day on AB's (her cystitis was sorted by Monday). She seems generally bouncing with health and energy now. I've cleaned her ears with a Neem oil based ear cleaner - they were filthy, but are now clean puppy pink again. She is an expert at pinching things we thought would be safely out of reach and chewing them. Nick's reading glasses will never be the same, a phone extension cable neatly severed, a pile of paper for recycling - you know how it goes. ;D We've had some close calls too, when she's dashed off with the TV remote, a full hot water bottle and various other sundry items we've managed to retrieve before destruction commenced. C'est la vie... She loves Lottie! And vice versa: Nick is working on her recall, and she's getting lots of great exercise either playing with the other dogs in the house, or in the field. We've only used the coat the first few times outdoors, when she was just ambling on a lead and couldn't keep herself warm with proper exercise. (She also wore it when she was still a bit damp from her bath to make sure she didn't get a chill when taken out for pee breaks.) She can go indoors any time she wants from the field (quick trot down the garden path, and in through the dog flap), but she chooses not to. After nearly an hour and a half yesterday, it was Nick who had to call a halt cos he was cold standing around taking photos! She adores playing with the big ones and they are all surprisingly careful with her. She's safer than we are when they are running! You can she she's loving this: She had a bath after these photos were taken - she looks even more gorgeous now. We had to delay it while the urine burns healed up. She's putting on weight and condition - she'll need a new collar soon, cos this one's now on it's last hole and she's growing fast! One last one: This girl is going to be a stunner. And with a fantastic nature to match. Angie

I have so enjoyed reading your updates Angie and Nick. God, she does resemble Rippers Even down to the stealing and taking away, which he did endlessly and still does, I think. I too thought that there was some ridge in Ripper, so perhaps they both came from a similar breeding bloke (read that as it was sounding). Lovely photos. Especially your gorgeous brindles.

Absolutelybarking sure she's not staying put, and I'm typing this with her fast asleep on my knee! If our finances ran to more than 3, we'd have them already. You know how it is - it's not the food and treats, or the extra work or lack of space in your own bed. It's the insurance premiums, routine and unexpected vet bills. We use Pet Plan and I know they're not the cheapest but the cover and service is fantastic and I've never once regretted using them. Paying just one £70ish excess on a claim running to £1,000s has happened far more times than I would like over the years. She's gorgeous; we both love her to bits, and there'll be tears when she goes to her wonderful forever sofa one day. But we'll get such a buzz from helping her on her way. ;D Angie

Peppa went to the vet this morning and had her first vacc. - she barely noticed it, as she was so busy eating the little treats our kind vet had put on the table in front of her. She's put on weight too. Now 11.45Kg, up from 10.9Kg last Saturday. She did wince and give one little yip for the microchip - who wouldn't? But it didn't stop her eating her treats. She was very brave. She had a lovely run around in the field with the girls when we got back. Watching her "stalk" and then pounce on an unsuspecting Lucy who was completely engrossed in sniffing at a clump of grass, was absolutely priceless, but we didn't have the camera - too slippy underfoot. Drat. She looks much stronger when running now, far more controlled, and less flailing about in the leg department! After that was a warm homemade breakfast, and a very long snooze. ;D Now having another long snooze; as the vet predicted, she's a bit subdued and not quite 100% after the vacc, but she should be back to her full on self after 24 hours. Just a short rest for us and Lottie then... Angie
