Woody is adorable. He's such a sweetheart and hasn't got a bad bone in his body. Hannah slept downstairs with him last night and he realised that it was ok for him to sleep on the sofa, and he was quiet all night. He's done a couple of wees in the house today, probably because he hasn't managed to get out quick enough, but it's only Day 2, so this is a good start. He's eating ok, but is a bit reluctant with his meals. He's great out on walks and will just walk along beside you without any pulling. He's yet to meet any other dogs/people outside yet, so we'll see how he reacts to that soon enough. He's great with the other dogs, considering he's still intact and he's living with 3 other males. However, he is very nervous of people He's absolutely fine with me and Hannah, and he follows me around whenever I get up to go anywhere. He's also had a cuddle with me on the sofa which was lovely to see he trusts me enough to do that. However, he will come to mee for 'protection' if my dad or brother come near him They give him a wide birth, and haven't forced him to come near them, but he's still very fearful. If I'm sitting at the computer and one of them walks past he will dive under my legs and hide. He's such a wonderful dog and it's so sad to see him like this

I am extremely pleased to hear that Woody is being such a sweet-heart with you, he will come round to the rest of the family in time - men will just take a bit longer. Please do not over-do the exercise until he has been thoroughly checked over by your vet as he needs to mend his toe. Our vets advised very minimal excercise, just toilet visit exercise on thursday as over-doing it may cause more damage and he was healing so well. He does walk extremely beautifully on a lead, sticking to you like glue but if spooked will run. This is a dream dog and unfortunately for Jenny & SLR you may fail as a fosterer. Keep posting the pics and thanks for taking care of him. Hope his check up is good news, bandages off and you can then bath him so smells as good as he looks. xxxx

Thank you, he is only getting very gentle exercise at the moment, we're making sure he doesn't do too much. He's off to see the vet tomorrow, and yes, he needs a bath bless him, he's covered in flea dirt Thank you for rescuing him, he is a wonderful dog. We'll put up some more pictures soon and keep you updated xxx

Very good updates and information on Woody, so congratulations to everyone involved in his rescue. I'm sure he'll make rapid progress in his foster home from now on.
Since dogs don't bear grudges or hold on to the past, neither should we. I'm sure Woody's going to do just fine from now on and he has so few issues that he'd make a perfect second dog in any household with a confident dog (and maybe a cat or two) which can show him the way.

Time for another Woody update. His second night here wasn't that great Hannah was sleeping downstairs with the dogs again, and Woody had a go at Sunny and Fionn during the night. He lunged and snapped at them when they were getting down/moving from the sofa, and we think their sudden movement scared him, so he snapped instinctively out of fear Either this or he's getting too big for his boots and is starting to show a dominant side, but after observing him in the daytime we think he was just frightened, which is understandable. In the daytime he has no problems with the others, they can barge past him, run around him and he doesn't care at all. To deal with this we've started getting him used to sleeping in the crate, so he has a secure, safe place to sleep in at night and in the day when he chooses. He took to the crate straight away, and likes to sleep in there. He spent last night in the crate without any problems, and didn't make a sound. He went to the vets yesterday as well to his dressing off. Our vet said the toe was healing well, but she felt it still needed support, so he got it dressed again (this time in red ) and that's going to be taken off tomorrow morning. Hopefully after that he won't need it dressed anymore. He's also been put on anti-imflammitories to make it less painful for him as the toe was really swollen. He still can't have any walks, so he just has to potter round the garden, with a plastic bag on his bandaging to keep it dry. But he cries when the others go out for their walks, so it'll be nice when he can go out too. He's still having problems with house training, but this will improve, especially when he can go out for walks. He's also still scared of my dad and brother, as well as strangers, but he's already getting more confident, and I think with time and patience he will learn to trust men again I promise to put pictures up later today, but it's diffictult to get him to stand still for long enough!

Great update Rowan. I'm sure with you he will continue to make progress. It must be frustrating for him to stay at home when the others go out walkies. I believe it will help the pack bonding process when he is able to go out with them too. ;D

Great update Rowan - His snapping and lunging at your other dogs sounds exactly like fearful agression to me, he was probably startled and being unsure as to whether they were a threat or not an immediate response would be defence hense the reaction. Don't worry too much about it, the more relaxed he becomes within your family the more he'll begin to trust those around him and more importantly feel secure. Hope his toe continues to heal well and he gets to socialise out on walks soon

I agree with Karla, if it was dark and he was sleeping he was probably startled and just reacted automatically. I'm sure once his general anxiety levels go down (which they undoubtely will in your care) he'll be better. He's a lovely looking lad and I hope his foot heals quickly so he can enjoy romping on Bernard's Heath with "The Beast"!

Yep, I totally agree with you both, I think it was an automatic reaction, and I'm sure he'll get better with time. I think the crate makes him feel more secure at night, so hopefully sleeping in there will help. He's at the vet as I type, and hopefully getting his bandaging off! His toe doesn't seem to bother him, and when I let him out in the garden this morning he raced off down the garden with Fionn, so I had to quickly stop him before he hurt himself again! I think once he's all healed up he'll enjoy playing with Fionn, with will be nice. I'm still trying to get some photos of him, which is difficult as he always stays close to me, so I can never get him to stand far away enough to get a photo!

Ok, I've finally got some pictures to put on, but they're not great, and they really don't show how handsome he his. He had his bandage off yesterday (yay) but the poor boy can't go for walks for another 2 weeks which I think will really frustrate him, but nevermind, and his toe should be fully healed in 6 weeks. But it meant he could finally have a bath, which was nice, so he's now rid of flea dirt, and smells and feels gorgeous Other than that he's doing really well, he wags his tail and licks my hands when I come down in the mornings, but still terrified of my Dad and brother. I think it'll take a lot of time an patience for him to realise they're no threat, but he'll get there. Also yesterday evening I took him for a very short toilet walk (just up a short woodland path and back). On our way back we met a family who live round the corner, and own SLR dog Shadow. As soon as Woody saw them approach he freaked out and tried his best to get away, (thankfully he was wearing a harness so I could keep hold of him), after a few seconds he calmed down but watched them very carefully. I think he gets a lot of his confidence from the other dogs, so hopeully he'll be ok when he can go out with them. But next time I take him out I'll bring another dog with me Anyway, here are pictures. He's a very handsome boy. He is 28" tts and currently weighs 35kg (and he still needs to put on weight) :

lovely pictures, he looks so handsome! glad he has had his bandage off , hope his foot heals well and it will soon be fully healed. Hope the 2 weeks without walks do the trick and then he can enjoy going out properly he must feel much better after his bath too, hope he starts to learn that men won't hurt him and gain confidence, it sounds like he has bonded well with the girls in the house and is learning to trust you, so it is good he looks to you for reassurance and comfort, well done for helping him through his worries, he will get there in the end
