Oliver is a lovable and endearing young Lurcher. He came into the Rescue in March, and has been fostered by SLR Treasuer Mick and his wife Carole. Of late Carole has suffered more and more back pain and has been unable to help Mick with the lead walking of their own three dogs and Oliver. Oliver needed to get off lead and out and about with more dogs so Mick relucantly decided to move Oliver down to Christine in Berkshire, where he will be fostered with her two females and one male lurcher. His previous thread can be read on the link below. mimsmum.proboards.com/thread/29715/oliver-softie-lemon-white-salukiBut we would like to start his story again. Oliver is now approximately 21 months old, is clean indoors, sleeps downstairs and gets on well with the dogs he is fostered with. He can be nervy around new dogs, but not confrontational indoors with them. He is more unsettled outside and will avoid walking towards them if he can and then panicks and barks at them. Off lead he is completely different and wants to say hello to every dog and play. We can only think that he has had bad experiences when being cornered on lead. Christine has had good success with her last foster Bertie with this type of fear and so is willing to give Oliver the benefit of her knowledge and patience. I am sure Christine will start posting some photos shortly On his way to her today he popped into MC and my pack and little puppy Isla had a blast with him. He is a stunning boy, all credit to Mick and Carole for giving him his first 5 months in a loving foster home. I'll leave Christine to take over this thread. xx

I've got a soft spot for this wee man. Not entirely sure why, but I suspect it's because I like the cheeky ones and their impish characters!

well done Christine, he will love being within your gorgeous pack You've done a great job Mick and Carole, I understand the struggles of managing dog walks etc and back pain, especially this time of year when trying to get wellies and walking boots on! I too have been in tears at seeing Twirl off, she was only her for 5 weeks....hugs to Carole especially xx

Carole and Mick XX I'm so sorry that it's been so upsetting for you both to say goodbye to little Ollie. I've shed so many tears every time I have to let my fosters go. It's hard to take them into your lives and give them love and security and then have to see them go. You know that he'll be happy during his time here and will be much-loved and will have fun with my dogs... and one day thanks to all you and Carole have done for him, he will find his forever home and live happy ever after.

Big hugs for Carole and Mick - you've given Oliver a good start, so a big to you both. And Christine - he's obviously a hit with Daisy...already!! Well done you - I'm sure you'll be able to progress Oliver some more...another step nearer that 'forever home'.

Ollie was very good last night... a little bit of squeaking at first but he soon settled. He really is a lovely boy. He was quite timid at first which Mick said was normal with him, but he's already become bouncy and happy and goes all wiggly when I open my arms wide and call him to me. There's something special about the timid ones when they start showing their affection... it's somehow even more precious. He wasn't sure yesterday evening about where to go when all the other dogs were snuggled together on the big sofa. He eventually climbed up onto the smaller sofa beside me but didn't look too sure about it. It didn't take long for him to relax. Here he is doing his first roach, showing off that lovely spotty tummy... ... and that cheeky grin!!!

It is YOUR very special way to welcome those little foster dogs into your home and therefore, hi presto! they seem to settle straight away, Christine! A big hug for Mick, and especially for Carole, for taking such good care of Oliver.

Ollie is doing really well. He's only been here 2 days but he's fitted in with my three dogs and has picked up on our routines really easily. He's clean in the house and sleeps overnight without any fuss. He loves a cuddle on the sofa in the evening and loves playing with his toys - I've got some fun videos of him that I'll post soon. We went over to the park this morning and he was very good about meeting other dogs. He was a bit anxious with the bigger dogs when I took him over to a large pack of dogs and people chatting, but he behaved well... everyone said how handsome he is. Those big brown eyes make him look a bit sorrowful, which is very endearing, and he has the most gorgeous long, soft ears. He was especially taken with Alice's favourite little whippet puppy, Stripes, who is adorable, full of energy and loves to play. I've been teaching him "this way" meaning follow me, by turning and gently easing him the way I want him to go. I'm amazed at how quickly he's picked this up and after just a few times he now turns when I say it without me having to put any tension on the lead. This is all part of getting him to see me as the focus on his walks, so it augers well for the eventual recall tests I'll have to do with him once he's been with us for a few weeks. I also took him for a short walk round the streets later to see how he was on the lead and he walked very well, keeping beside me and stopping at the kerbs when I stopped. We're meeting up with Katie who adopted Effie (now Ellie) for a walk this week and hoping to get over to Tadley to meet Philippa, Zephyr and Lily at the weekend. I want to make sure he gets to meet as many people and dogs as possible so that his confidence can grow. Here is the handsome boy on our walk at the park this morning. Looking at this shot makes me want to cuddle him, and I'm sure Mick and Carole will feel the same!
