SUNNY - AGE 7 - SADLY NEEDS REHOMING
« Thread Started on Jul 12, 2010, 10:18am »

Sunny was rehomed by us a few weeks ago, but sadly his new owner feels that she is not the right home for Sunny.
Sunny is a lovely boy, and I am sure that his previous foster family will be along in a mo to fill in about his character and his needs. So sad that Sunny has to come back into Rescue again.
Some last photos of Sunny before he left for his new home.

.......................................................................

Some pictures of Sunny in the garden this morning. I couldn't get any action shots, he'd either pose on the patio or stand right next to me for cuddles. I think he just wanted to get back inside to zonk out on the sofa again, typical lurcher. :o ;) The sun was in his poor ickle eyes which is why he's squinty, but still very cute. :-*

Come on Sunny, I know you're comfy, but we've got to take some pictures!

Outside...

'Oooo, it's a bit sunny out here... (no pun intended!)'

'Back inside, finally!'

'Ahhh, back where I belong...'

'Don't think I'll be moving from here for a while...'

Sunny out this morning: (sorry about his squinting, it was bright again! ;) )

Oh how sad - heartbreaking - poor boy. He was doing so well in his foster home too after such a tough time :(
Hoping and praying the perfect home comes soon....

We're all very sad that Sunny is coming back into SLR, but obviously if things haven't worked out it is for the best.

All I can say is that when Sunny was here, he was extremely well behaved. He was fine to be left for a couple of hours, wasn't destructive, was clean in the house, loved people and other dogs, and had very good recall, so he was always off lead on walks.

This might have changed since he left us, but that's pretty much the dog we knew and loved. Sunny is a lovely, older dog, with no hang-ups, and he just loves people and dogs. He really needs a comfortable retirement home, where he can relax :)

What's happening with Sunny? Is he back into foster now or is he still waiting for a foster home?

I'm keeping my fingers crossed. His Adopter is giving it another try, but we may need to bring him in still, so I am keeping this thread running. :(

I've had a phone call today. We do need to bring Sunny back in for rehoming. Hannah and Rowan will monitor the situation whilst I am away, and we will get him in when I get back. :(
Best for Sunny.

Yep, you can imagine how we feel all this toing and froing. :(

The good news is Sunny Jim will come back here for fostering. ;D

Jane rung us today, and we said we'd be happy for him to come back here this week. It would mean moving him for holiday cover, which wouldn't be ideal, but we would rather just get him back and safe here to be honest. However the decision is up to Jane, so we'll just wait to hear from her.

We did discuss it and we think the most likely reason for Sunny's change in behaviour is probably to do with pack leadership. We're in charge of our dogs, and they know it, they have firm commands, boundaries e.t.c. Sunny could be quite cheeky but was fine when he knew the rules e.t.c. This in turn probably allowed him to relax, and to be able to be left e.t.c without worry, because he didn't have to take control. I think Jane has had very laid back, easy dogs in the past, and was probably not firm with Sunny and quite unsure of her control over him, which made him nervous in turn. Of course this is just guesswork but it makes sense, and we really can't think of another reason because he was the perfect dog here. :-/

We'll update when we know what's happening. ;)

Jane has decided and Sunny is arriving back tomorrow. We'll update when he's settled back in a bit. He will need a temporary foster when we go away though (any takers?) but we'll just be glad to get him back here and back to his old self as soon as possible. 8-)

Thank you for the offers Keith/Gilly, we'll let you know.

I think it's time for an update on Sunny. Since he's been back he's pretty much the same dog we had here before. He's clean in the house, can be walked off lead as his recall is very good, is fine to be left and doesn't cry, gets on well with other dogs and is generally a very happy chappy :-*

His only 'problems' are that in his desperation to get food, he can sometimes snap treats out of your hand. But if you give them to him carefully in the flat of your hand (like you'd feed a horse) and not from the tips of your fingers this isn't a problem. He also 'air-humps' the three males here. He doesn't actually mount them he just stands next to them thrusting ::) It's really funny but with a sharp 'no' or 'uh-uh' he'll stop. He did this when he was with us before but he calmed down after a few days and he's already pretty much stopped this now. He doesn't counter surf at our house (because he knows it's against the rules!) but he did counter surf when we took him to a friend's house.

Sunny is pretty much the perfect dog. He loves people and adores being cuddled. He gets so happy to see you and is desperate to please. He has the most lovely personality - he's a cheeky old man who cheers everybody up. Sunny will not misbehave if he knows it's not allowed. So if he learns that you are the boss, and he can't do whatever he wants (like air humping wand counter surfing) he will be the perfect dog. Sunny has plently of life in him, and is such a loving dog, so please offer this funny old man a home soon :-*

He sounds like the perfect dog to me, I'd love to offer him a home, however 5 is my limit :-*

7 is most definitely not an old age with lurchers - my Vinnie is 7 and he still acts like a puppy and has so much life in him ;) so I really hope that doesn't put anyone off giving Sunny a loving home xx

we also hope for the very best for Sunny too and are sorry to hear things didn't work out for him :( hope he doesn't have to wait too long for his forever sofa now

totally agree Karla, 7 isn't old at all for a lurcher, when our Toby was 7 he was still full of beans, bouncing around like a puppy, and i would say, he was in his prime around that age, as he had calmed down alot compared to when he was a puppy when he first came to us , settled down alot and really enjoyed life, aged 7 he still had another 7 good and very fun, busy years of life left to enjoy too, so hope people are encouraged that there can be plenty to enjoy and look forward to :)

Sunny is with us for a week or so while his foster family are on holiday.
Sunny is an absolute gem :-* he's very calm and quiet & can pee for England :o I don't think we've heard him make a noise yet, he may have quietly made a squeaking noise in anticipation of his dinner last night or that may have been Holly the hamster running in her wheel....

He doesn't appear to be bothered by anything, just takes everything in his stride :-* walks perfectly onlead and loves to trot along off-lead too.

He loves a bit of fuss & cuddles, I've received many a lurcher lean from Sunny. xx

short clip of Bax & Sunny in the forest yesterday afternoon.

After our morning walk today, Sunny settled in Baxter's crate for a nap (Bax didn't care at all) & I took the opportunity to whip round with the hoover..... & Sunny fell asleep. I just couldn't resist the temptation to tuck him in :-*
